Smart Zed!
Are they the red leather seats? I spent ages trying to find a Steel Grey 2.8 w/ the red leather interior. It took me 3mths just to find a grey 2.8, so I had to compromise on the interior eventually. Booo!!!!!!

For the small extra expense, DEFINITELY get a BMW OE screen, rather than a snide one off the Net. Mine split a month ago & I made the mistake of trying to save a few quid by getting a cheap one, but it was a royal pain in the arse to fit it. After I'd spent 3hrs trying to get it zipped in & ...

I bought my '98 2.8 about 2yrs ago & it's been great. My 20 mile daily commute, in traffic, keeps the MPG about 26-28, but if we were bothered about fuel consumption, we'd all buy diesel supermini's - :bawl: . The fun you'll have with it makes the expense worthwhile. One thing to look for is the...

I could do with a copy of this if you can sort me out. I made the mistake of getting the roof down when it was cold (but sunny!) and managed to split the screen. Kind of ruins the look when your back window is taped up with gaffa tape

Roof coming loose

My roof seems to have fallen out with the frame it's supposed to be attached to & is trying to break free. Whats the best way of trying to reattach this?
I've tried to jam the flaps back into the casing things found the bars of the frame, but only really succeeded in ripping holes in the flaps.

I fitted a front strut to my 2.8 a few months ago, as I felt the front end handling wasn't sharp enough. I can't say I've noticed that much of a difference to be honest - I can feel a slight improvement, but nothing dramatic. If you drove it before & after without knowing a brace had been fitted...

Rubbish alarm

On the odd occasions the alarm on my Z goes off, it's makes a really pathetic beeping noise. I thought this was just 'cos mine had a crap alarm fitted, but I saw another Z recently with the same timid "terribly sorry to bother you, but I'm being stolen" alarm going off. Was this the standa...

Handling

I've had my '98 2.8 for about a year now & LOVE the straight line speed, but it handles like a garden shed when cornering. Whenever I really lean on the grip, it feels like the front end is going to let go & scrub wide. Bearing in mind I'm clueless mechanically, what's my best bet for improv...

Go for a 2.8. It'll cost you about the same money & although you'll spend a bit more on fuel, it's worth it.

I was choosing between 2.0 & 2.8 & the smaller engined cars just felt s-o-o-o s-l-o-o-o-w!!!!

Rear End Rattles

We have had several messages concerning ‘untraceable’ rattles from the rear end. The popular ‘cure’ for this problem is to replace the rear damper mounts, hundreds of which must have been sold without effecting a cure! I have combined the causes found by several people, which may be useful. Thanks t...

Does anyone know if there's a workshop manual available for the Z3?

It's getting embarrassing taking it in to the garage for really tiny jobs doing, that are probably really easy if you know what you're doing - unfortunately I have the mechanical nous of a haddock. :dunce:

Why advertise the engine size? Subtle & discreet is the way to go. I usually check the exhaust tailpipe to get an idea of what size of mill another Zed has.

Anyway, people will soon know you've got a 2.8 whan you spank them away from the lights! :D

I was working to a budget when buying & was trying to decide between a 2.0 & a 2.8. The various 2 litre cars I drove seemed OK, but seemed sluggish & heavy, whereas the 2.8's got plenty of shove when you want it. Also, for some strange reason insurance was cheaper on the 2.8 - similiar a...

I've just discovered a website - www.pipelinecard.org (I'm not clever enough to be able to post links :dunce: ).

It's a freebie membership scheme to try & get cheaper fuel. Got to be worth a look, especially if like me, your MPG seems to get less & less every time you check the OBC :(

Clutch foot rest quandary

I've just bought a '98 Z3 - it's my 1st BMW & this is my first post on this site, so be gentle with me. Does anyone else find the foot rest to the left of the clutch in their car a bit annoying? It's about 3inches too near to the driving position and it's canted over at about a 10degree angle. I...
