Re: Replacement of rear sub frame bushes
Subframe needs to be removed, or at least dropped to ground. This involves taking off exhausts and handbrake cables, disconnecting driveshaft. The pesky brackets that attach to sills can be difficult to get off due to M8 caphead screws being corroded - worth checking those as pre-task. The old bushe...

Re: Z3m lsd diff cover
The z3m diffs are expensive and rare so the cover will not be cheap. Have you tried bmw to see how expensive? The non m cover will fit and should be fine. You dont get the cooling fins but will be ok unless you are going to hammer it around a track. Other option is to fit a small remote oil cooler.

Get some spray lubricant on it. It could just be seized. The catches need lubricating regularly.

My car has a welded on bracket on the bulkhead to attach the brace to. To do this on a z3 you will need engine out to do same. So its not easy at all.

Hi all, I have been rubbish at keeping this up to date and generally posting on the forum. If I spend much more money it will be on upping power :-) Can you get any more power? Its not more power he needs, its a longer (quieter) road [emoji38] Im tempted with a turbo. Re: Replacing rear beam bushes: 3 questions for you
I think whats going on with the rear suspension is quite complicated. Whether a solid bush is good or bad for load transfer is a matter of opinion unless someone measures it. You can certainly see why driveshaft failure is common fron the video. The motion will take driveshaft alignment outside norm...

Re: Replacing rear beam bushes: 3 questions for you
The diff moves around loads on the soft rear mount. There is a youtube video somewhere. Three problems from this: 1. Driveshaft angular alignment compromised, leads to wear and failure in driveshaft joints. 2. Dynamic loads higher into boot floor. 3. If you have solid front beam bushes you dont want...

Re: Replacing rear beam bushes: 3 questions for you
I wouldn't bother with poly for rhe the trailing arms but defo worth it for the beam and diff mount. My z3m caught me out a few times when on the limit. With solid bushes it's lots more predictable when you lose traction and a safer car.

You can do it easily with the diff fitted. Just unbolt the cover and it will come away.
The front subframe bushes are well worth changing to solid bushes, but that needs the subframe dropping.

You cant buy this paint pre-mixed there is no code for it. Easy option is to go to a paint factors and they can put the colour gun in it. If your car is silver the body paint is a non-metallic flat grey matt finish.

The front panel is common. Its tack welded to the end flange of the chassis rails. Its easy to drill the tacks out to remove and no need to reweld on fitting since its bolted there. I cant see there would be chassis rail damage from the pic shown. You should be able to see. Maybe pull off the undert...

Put a front brace on. Rear braces dont do anything. The problem with the rear is overly soft subframe bushes. You are far better off changing the bushes for poly.

I would be surprised if the different types of trailing arms were different lengths. Its possible accident damage is to blame. Worth getting an alignment check done and a good look at the subframe for signs of damage.
