Re: Flat Battery - Can you charge through lighter socket
Update: As everybody suggested the solar panel did not work so I bought a charger. I popped out the battery and gave it a full charge overnight, popped it back in and the car started first time. I'll probably take the battery out every few months and trickle charge it with the charger now that I hav...

Re: Flat Battery - Can you charge through lighter socket
Thanks,
The battery is flat because it's off the road for another reason, I did drive the car on Tuesday and it was fine but it hadn't bee driven for a month previously because of the other issue.
Will look into getting a proper charger.

Flat Battery - Can you charge through lighter socket
Hi All,
Tried to start car this morning but the battery is flat. I have a solar powered 12V / 1W Battery Charger which I received as a present many years ago. It plugs into the lighter socket. Is this safe to use to charge the battery?
Car is Z3 2.2i Sport 2002
Pic of charger below.

Re: Mystery Noise after stone passed under car
Not been able to get the car to a garage but noticed a few other facts about the problem. When I accelerate the noise goes until I lift off the throttle. It is there when coasting and under braking. I've tried taking of each wheel and the rear driving side wheel is stuck on! Any suggestions on how I...

Re: Mystery Noise after stone passed under car
Thanks to everybody for their suggestions, I'll take another look this weekend, but won't get under the car unless its appropriately supported. Anybody know how to upload a sound file to the forum, this may help identify it easier, I have recorded the sound at different speeds. The most likely culpr...

Re: Mystery Noise after stone passed under car
Thanks Del,
I take it I wont be able to get at this with the regular jack that came with the car.
Is there a schematic of the underside of a Z3 locating the propshaft so I can try and identify the problem with a camera?

Mystery Noise after stone passed under car
Hi All, On a recent journey a truck dumped a load of stones in front of my car. There was little I could do to avoid them and although I missed the larger stones a couple went under the car. They were not large, but large enough for them to bank and scrap. As soon as they had worked there way free t...

Re: Leaking rear window
Thanks for the help, much appreciated. My window is the zip in type so I'm going to give it a go. I've watched the video and it looks like it's not too difficult although I suspect it takes a lot longer if you have never done it before, your 2 hours seems a reasonable estimate. I was wondering what ...

Thanks I'll take a look and watch the video.
Did you have the same problem with the fabric, I'm not clear how the rubber trim holds it in place.
I'll try and upload an image shortly.

Leaking rear window
I have a leak through the rear window coming in through the bottom right hand corner where the fabric has pulled away from the rubber seal. The same thing has happened at the top of the window although water does not enter here. Although not a great deal of water gets in, over time it mounts up, I h...

Dublin garage recommendation
Hi All, I realise that this is a UK site however I was wondering if anybody can recommend a garage in Dublin, preferably south-side. I'm looking to have my front offside brake calliper and pads replaces as they are sticking. Current quote from BMW garage is €750 which seems excessive, anybody know a...

Given the minimum use of my Z over the last year I decided that a new battery was in order. I went down to BMW at the weekend and picked one up and installed it. The car is now running great again, now its time to buy a charger and keep this new battery in good condition. Thanks to everyone for ther...

Battery Charger
Can anyone advise on what type of battery charger I will need for my Z3?
My Z is a 2002 2.2i Sport from what I can understand the battery is 12V 70Ah 570A
There appears to be many chargers on the market which one should I invest in?

I guess its a clicking sound. Although the car has not been driven a great deal of late it has had a couple of long runs recently. It has been standing still for a week after the last one. The 'Magic Eye' is black, its been black for a long time, perhaps a year. The battery has never been replaced s...

Thanks Jonttt for the tips I will have a search through the forums and see if there is anything I can find. Strangely in my Z3 water only appears to come in when I drive the car in heavy rain. Nothing else is wet aside from the carpet which eventually saturates the floor mat if it is left in the car...

Passenger foot well water ingress
I have recently encountered a problem with my Z3, there is a water ingress in the passenger foot well. Water appears to enter the car from below while driving during heavy rain, this manifests itself firstly as a damp stop on the carpet below the floor mats on the passenger side of the car near the ...
