Re: Window only moves 2cm pre-press

Hi, Before you start replacing switches I think your first thought about sensors is correct. I have had this problem once & could not get a fix. Then I had to replace the battery and everything went back to normal. Since then I have been told that disconnecting the battery can trigger a 'reset' ...

Re: Door control Module

Hello Again, Before going for a new unit (& who has got £850+ going spare) consider again having the control unit spring cleaned. I checked with LINWAR today & they will happily clean the circuit board contacts and spray with contact cleaner. They are based in Southport but you could send th...

Re: Door control Module

Hello, Before trying to find a replacement Door Control Unit you must try a very cheap alternative. I had the same problem with my drivers door - especially in winter - the cure & it is a cure, is to take the cover off the unit and give it a good spray with Contact Cleaner. If you are really han...

E30 Rocker Cover

Hello Ben,

Glad to be of help. They are brilliant at servicing & repairs as well.
But it would be a bit of a trek from Brighton to Southport !!

Fuel Leak

Hi, I don't think you need to worry. I had this happen in my early days of Z1 ownership. I filled the tank to the brim just before going on holiday and was horrified to see a small puddle of petrol underneath the rear of the car. It's never happened since - possibly because I can no longer afford to...

Z1 Rocker Cover

Hi,

You should try Linwar Motors - they have a massive stock of just about every E30 part you could name. They could still have my old rocker cover which I traded in after finding a polished (like new) cover on ebay last year. Go to www.linwar.com.

Z1 Wheel Well Liners

Hi Rick, Yes, you can order any of the underbody panels from your local BMW dealer (at about £80 each from UK BMW dealers for the front wheel arch items). I had mine replaced last year but beware they are not easy to fit as you have to dismantle a lot of the suspension to install them without resort...

Scare stories about Ethanol in petrol ??

Hello All, Read an article in last weeks Classic Car Weekly that since our petrol has gone 'green' by adding up to 5% ethanol it has been causing various problems for 'classic car owners' !! Apparently ethanol is corrosive to both metal and some of the older type plastics and seals. Some owners have...

Hello Pat, Yes, most BMW main dealers & some independants will give 10% discount (on parts) to members of the BMW Car Club but you have got to ask & show your membership card. But I think all BMW main dealers have a '4 Plus' & even a '6 Plus' scheme (for cars over that number of years ol...

Views on Z1 Door Control Unit

Hi Felix & Jet, Thanks for your comments. Yes, the Auto Electrician did do the swop test & the fault problem moved over as expected. That's when he decided to look inside the Unit and spotted the dry joints. I'm torn between going back for a second attempt or take his advice to buy a new uni...

View on replacing Z1 Door Control Unit

Hello All, Your views please on what action to take to cure the (occasional) problem of my Drivers Door refusing to work !! The passenger door always works perfectly. I know the cause which is due to some sort of bad connection/dry joint in the Door Control Unit because all it takes to make the door...

Side Repeaters in the UK

Just to add to the confusion !! My Z1 was first registered in the UK in May 1989 and being a grey import from Germany does not have side repeaters. It has always passed the MOT without them because I was told that side repeaters only became mandatory for cars first registered from 1st August 1989 on...

Any Recommendations for Z1 door servicing ??

Hello Friends, It will be my Z1's 19th birthday at the end of this month and the doors are still working OK (give or take the odd "pull the lever & nothing happens" !!) But I don't want to push my luck much longer. Can anyone recommend a BMW Independant (or even Main Dealer ??) who has...
