Re: Headlights!

I set up a board at the back of my garage and marked the dipped beam centres and where the kick up to the left started. Then I backed away 25 feet and checked again, slightly low. Looked at the adjusters which were very stiff so I ended up removing the lights, cleaning and lubing the adjusters, repl...

Interior changes.

Have had my Z3 for more than 8 years and only just noticed there are two distinct types of glovebox. Is this a pre/post facelift thing? Are there any other interior differences I haven't noticed? My facelift car has a much more discreet glovebox than others I've seen.

Are you sure you need parts? The drum parking brake has an easy life. I recently looked at my 2000 2 litre 102,000 mile car and it just needed to be stripped, cleaned, re-assembles with a touch of copper grease at the appropriate points and it works perfectly. Are Z3's getting rare?

Are Z3's getting rare already? Just returned from a week in Cornwall (not in the Z3) and I didn't see any Z3's at all, a couple of Z4's and that was it. When you look at the prices of complete cars and the prices of used spares it's a wonder that any cars get sold and are not all broken for parts.

I may have missed it but nobody has mentioned the thermostat. The temperature gauge should go to the middle of the dial very quickly. If you only hear the noise when the engine is cold at about 1800 rpm it is almost certain to be a Vanos problem. Several years ago my BMW 2,0 Z3 developed an annoying little chattering rattle noise at about 1800 to 2000 revs when cold. Have a look at the plugs, do you know when they were replaced? The coil packs are all identical so you could swap them around and see if the fault moved with them. This would show whether the coils were the problem at least. Good luck!
