Re: Half shaft

Well, I didn't do anything about that last autumn and the car passed its MoT at the garage that I had previously discussed it with. So it is probably not a safety or reliability issue. I'd still like to get it sorted this autumn though. The only difference is that BMW Classic has now shut up shop. A...

Also, just over 12 years. Bought at 104000km, now on 155000km. Not much usage last year as the Z1 can't look like it's on an Essential Journey. Making up for lost time this summer. Clambering in and out keeps me supple. Next question is what to do about E10 petrol.

I've received the replacement gears from GearWorks in Paderborn, Germany. I just don't trust myself peeling off the speedometer face without ruining it, using the link Mark provided. What was the solution the developer proposed? I've just got the same problem with the odometer, although the speedometer is unaffected. I've found someone in Germany who sells replacement gears for the odometer for £45 including delivery. Let's hope the packet doesn't fall foul of Customs, HMRC and ...

Happy New Year, y'all, The inevitable has happened. I usually park the Z1 in my garage with the driver's door down. My car has now done 155,000 km so it could really be anything. The CV boots, both inner and outer, are in good order, so I didn't think the CV joints themselves could fail. The noise is just a crack when you start off or transfer weight on roundabouts. Do I assume correctly that the "repair kit...

When I start driving, I get a crunch noise after a few inches of movement, like driving over a plastic cup. It makes the same noise when the weight shifts going round roundabouts. Ten years since I bought this car from Kilsh and I've only just seen this post. It had spent much of its life on Bermuda. The intention with the side repeaters was to leave no holes. There is, however, a big crack in the usual place in the driver's side panel. It's going to live on Corfu. I suppose the number plate will be superfluous once it's there.
