Hi Ian, Have you checked the thick round connector under the intake manifold/throttle valve? The contacts are 30 years old and are oxidising. If these contacts are black, they should be replaced. The crimp contacts (male and female) are available from BMW as a spare part, but it's a really nasty job...

Nobody needs the Z1 as a vehicle for everyday use anymore, so you can safely wait until something stops working and then fix it. - Especially with the astronomical prices for spare parts.

we use the BMW part-no: 51479128456 from the Z4
..and the rectangle version from the Z3 51472261407 (this is much cheaper)

These nets are easy to install and fits perfect into the Z1

Hi Robert, I don't think that the problem is the relay but if so, the relais of the e31, e32 e34 and e36/Z3 should fit too. If you have a smaller steering wheel, you can try an indicator swich of e34. When you connect the wires from the Z1 harness to e34 switch (the wires are soldert to the switch) ...

Who has taken off the rear wing? RKV? - Than it should be a repaair for free, otherwise you can try to open the cap of the connector at the cable, check wich one (7 or 3) has no connection to ground, make a new connection from that pin to the chassis. (It's not perfect but it will work :D )

That's right, the connector at the rear light is glued, but the connector at the cable has a rubber cap and it should be possible to pin out the contacts. ...a short review: In my E39 the ABS, DSC and brake controls shows an error. I shipped out my ABS control unit on Monday the 4th and got it back four days later. :thumb: Since installing it again there are now new errors shown over the last 500 km.
