Re: What do you think of this M?

Hey guys. Yea I appreciate I'd need to view, unfortunately I'm in Scotland so was hoping someone else had seen it ir it was a known car! I'm attracted to cars from dealers just now as I've not sold my Focus RS so would need to P/X to swap now. Unfortunately they came back a fair bit different from w...

Re: What do you think of this M?

Thanks guys. I'll need to refresh my memory on the areas to watch on these as I've been looking more at M3's lately.

What do you think of this M?

Hello all, What do you lot think of this M? I spotted it and thought the colour combo was good and initial signs of care appear to be there (all MOTs, comprehensive history). I will call the dealer back tomorrow to firm up some details. Was originally looking for an E46 M3 but they are all dogs at t...

I've got the same cold weather tyres on my Civic Type R just now and they are pretty good! Surprisingly not as good in deep snow as the other half's Maragoni Meteo winter tyres though. Have you found they have made the Z3M viable in winter then? I'm doing some research to see if an M would make a su...

Hi mate, how are you finding the car in the snow? And after coming from the Clio/DC5?

I'm interested as I'm considering an M as my semi-daily driver over my EK9 Civic Type R but am a bit concerned by the jump to RWD with no TC especially as the car isn't the safest being based on an E36!

I've not had much experience with a Z3M, been out in an E46 M3 and been around a couple of stationary Z3M's but never out in one. If one comes up for sale near me I'll try and get a look at it, quite unlikely I'd imagine though unfortunately. Sound wise the S2000 was disappointing, the 350Z was exce...

Money wise I'm planning on doing basic maintenance myself and my friend is a mechanic who can help with servicing etc. so for all cars the basics should be roughly the same. However I'm guessing the M's parts might be more? I've heard some M parts can get silly expensive - I just hope they don't app...

So around town I can expect around 20mpg but on a run it picks up significantly. Safety wise there doesn't seem to be much documentation bar an NCAP rating on the E36. Are the roll bars structural? As for S2000 vs. 350Z vs. Z3M I've no idea, need to try and get into a Z3M to see if it is going to sc...

I understand there will be a drop in the fuel economy but as mentioned I don't really want to drop much below 20mpg as I feel that is too much of a compromise. Shantybeater - thanks for the reply. I really like your Z actually, would love one similar. I take on board your point about driving like a ...

I know, but it was the closest match I saw seeing as the Z is closely related to the E36 and is of the same era.

Thanks. I'll start looking around the classifieds and try gauge the pricing from there. Would be looking for mid miles (70k would be ideal) in any colour really. The interior would need to be a nice combination as some of the colours... Well, it makes me wonder about the original owners! I'll have a...

Re:

Thanks guys, very helpful. Driving wise I will be doing about 60-70% town with the rest being fairly free flowing country jaunts. The mrs and I have an 09 Fiesta ZS which returns something stupid like 49mpg so we share that when commuting where possible. Really keen to hear what people get around to...

Boring Z3M Questions - Safety and MPG

Hi folks, Doing some further research. I like the M's but have not driven anything RWD so am curious as to how I'd get on with no TC and the short wheelbase? And then if the worst was to happen would the car be a relatively safe place to be? Not expected miracles with the MPG but around town I'm gue...

The MPG of the M around town seems to be around 25mpg while the 3.0 appears to be around 30mpg. I could deal with either, I'm not getting the best MPG as it is and I only do about 6-7k a year. Servicing seems to be the main separator but I'm still guessing the 3.0 will need the same inspection routi...

If I was to go for a Z I would be most likely to buy in autumn/winter in order to try and avoid the premium you mention. I won't be after an S54 engined Z due to the purchase price, I may be able to stretch to an S50 M over a 3.0 depending on what is available and at what cost. Mileage doesn't reall...

Johntt - Thanks for your help. I'm going to be honest and if I decide to go for a Z and I'm paying near enough M money for a good 3.0 I'll just save an extra thousand or so and get the M. As for extra servicing costs I'll just keep sending it to my friends garage, if it devalues it much I just won't...

I'm going to say now that unless M's drop in price to nearer £7k I would rule them out due to tying up too much money in a car - will see nearer the time. I'm only 22 so there is plenty of time to get an M powered car (Z3 or otherwise) in the future once I've sorted some others things out :) Especia...

Yea I imagine the 3.0 is about as quick (both around 240bhp) as the S2000 but with more power lower down the range. As for running costs, I assume the M costs a lot more on consumables and fuel than the 3.0? Keep wanting an M but realistically the 3.0 is more suitable... So tempted to save for an M ...

Thanks for the help guys. Picked up my copy of Evo magazine today which had a Z3M on the cover, must be a sign :D Is there a rough pricing guide anywhere? I'd be interested in the prices of the 3.0's and the M roadsters just to compare. Would a 3.0 hold it's value as much as an M or would they depre...

I was hoping the open top may provide the thrills :) I've got no idea how the engines feel as I've not driven anything like them yet - part of the curiosity. What I would imagine is the torqu and low down power may make town driving easier. With the VANOS then does it make it easier to keep the car ...

Thanks for the reply, nice link by the way :) I was having a look at the differences between the pre-and post-facelift and I think I prefer the post facelift rear lights on the 3.0 - don't think I've ever noticed they changed them before. I use/will use my car daily so I want something that is suita...

Thanks for the links, very helpful! I like the widebody pre-facelift and then the facelift best. Perhaps I've only ever noticed the four pots around and thus why I previously thought they looked a bit weedy :) It was actually 'shantybeater' who posted some pictures on another forum which made me pop...

Some Z based research

Hi folks! In a year or so I am hoping to get a RWD car, which one I don't know yet. I was ideally looking to move to an S2000 but they seem to have a very bad reputation for chucking themselves off the road. Only other option really is an E36 M3 - I have since decided to look into Z3's a bit for sak...
