Fan belt slipping
Hi All. Does anyone else suffer with this? I replaced both belts, tensioners and water pump less than 3000 miles ago, but recently I'm getting slippage on start up from cold. Any ideas?

Tyres? Not my strongest point..
Hi Guys. I'm reasonably sure it is irrelevant, but just for the avoidance of doubt.. I need four new tyres without question. On the rear I have Toyo Proxy's T1R's (245/40/ZR/17/95Y) and the front I have Continental's (225/45/ZR/17/91Y). I thought I might plump for Falken 452's having read postings o...

Electric Hood Failure
Hi Guys. I've developed an intermittent fault with my hood, it get's half way down then cuts out. I'm confident it is the wiring on the nearside of the car under the hood fabric, but on inspection from what I can see it is all in good order (2002 car). I hasten to add the fault occurred initially wi...

Re: Seats ...
Thanks guys, by older seat I mean the square stitched base as opposed to the shaped base with the slight rise between the legs, which I now assume is the sports seat. Raising the seat height beyond the existing adjustment sounds like a good idea, I may have to give that a try. Trying a car with the...

There is a template somewhere on this forum or in the knowledgebase for making this exact tool. Don't buy one off ebay! Well, I'm very pleased with myself! Finally finished off the replacement of the water pump, tensioners and belts this morning. I cannot find it for the life of me. I've seen the other posts on here, and images, but still cannot see it. Mis-sold is a strong word. What did you order and who said that that was the part you required. If you asked BMW to order the correct part for your vehicle and they got it wrong, then you have every right to complain and ask for your money back. If on the other hand you went in and said can you ord...

Ok, so I'm well aware the quality is likely to vary significantly, however BMW quoted me £211.32 all inc. for the belt tensioner (serpentine) on my Zed this morning, versus £43 from Unipart! I'm disappointed as this weekend I replaced the water pump, tensioner (air con side), and belts with all BMW ...

The belt deflector pulley is only on the later engines and is fitted on an extended alternator top support bolt. It improves the belt 'wrap' on the alternator. The bearing on this idler often goes 'dry' and can rattle badly. Sounds a lot like a US water pump. Regards. Thanks Mr Silver. But should I...

Which Coolant? (new water pump being fitted)
Hi All. The more observant amongst you will know I'm replacing the water pump, belts, tensioners and pulleys this coming Saturday. Question is, which coolant to use? There would appear to be lots of differing types on the market. Are there any preferences for a 2.2i Zed? Thanks in advance.

Hi All. I repsonded to a recent thread re Viscous fan blades shattering, I have a discernable noise coming from the front end and very marginal play in the water pump splindle. Hi ktg1000 , you don't change bearings in a water pump. Quite difficult to do and not cost effective. I have used Elring 0191 491 5678 who imports from Germany (all metal rotor) and are super quick on delivery. Cost was £46 (for my 3.0i). Sensible people to deal with. Mention this forum. Re: Blades
The usual cause of blades breaking off is over-revving while the fan is engaged - this places a massive load on the blade roots, which are not very strong. for example, I would never exceed 2500 rpm while the fan coupling is engaged. On cars with air conditioning the A/C condensor fan operates as a...

If you're not sure what it is then I'd get that looked at by a specialist. The symptoms you describe could be the signs of impending water pump failure. When the bearings wear they get noisy. Try wobbling the fan from front to back (it's mounted on the water pump shaft) - if there's any play at all...
