More power from 2.5 si
Is there a way to get more power out of the n52 2.5 engine such as an ECU flash?

Mate, I think it is cold when we get down to single digits (and not the minus ones). I don't even go swimming until the water temperature hits 25 degrees, with the air temperature about 5 degrees above that. So in my mind you guys get the bravery awards for top down motoring in your climate. I get t...

Driving in the winter
Yes here in Oz it is winter time. Though my winter may be more like your summer in the UK with temperatures ranging from three to eighteen celsius. I reckon its more pleasant driving at this time of year with the top down, than in summer. Of course the heater on max, wind deflector and windows up an...

Well it's a BMW and I've been driving them for about 20 years - such engaging cars to drive. I love just about everything about it - the way it looks, sounds, handles, accelerates, the creature comforts ( leather, wood, air, cruise, heated seats, etc). Basically it is such a joy to drive - I still l...

Water leak
A water leak has recently appeared. It is on the driver's side above the very top point of the quarter window. i can't figure our why it is coming in as the seals seem to be ok. Not a major leak, just a slow drip. Any help would be much appreciated as the zed is now my only car having sold the e39.

Interesting comment about the steptronic. I've been driving my E39 528i steptronic (my first non manual car in decades) around for about four years before getting the manual 2.8 Zed. And honestly I've got to say that my next BM will almost certainly be a steptronic as in my experience this is the be...

We have 3, 2.8 BMW's including the Zed and none require top ups between changes. The two E39's have about 130k on them and the one we have owned the longest has changes at 20-25,000 without top ups. I can't speak for the Zed long term as have only had it a couple of months but appears not to have us...

Found the rattle in the roof
My clever 11 year old son found the source of the elusive rattle in the roof when it is down. It is the locking hooks that are the culprit as when the roof is down there is no tension on them causing them to rattle. The question is how to fix? The pin that goes through the eye of the hook seems to b...

Fixing the ride - Kontrol Pro Damper System?
Because my local roads are so bad I've either got to fix the suspension, get a kidney belt or sadly sell the Zed (I really don't want to do this), so I'd like to know if anyone has used the Kontrol Pro Damper System. http://www.ksportusa.com/asp/coilovers_detail.asp?product_id=cd01 Ksport Kontrol Pr...

If it really is a 2.8, the car is great value, but looking at the exhaust I suspect that it is not. I suggest that you check the hood out really carefully and verify the car's history. I bought a well loved 97 2.8 with 78,000k before Christmas and it cost me more than the car you are looking at even...

Had the ZE912's fitted on the back today so here is the report so far: Much quieter than the worn out 11 year old directional Michelins and great around the bends (though I'm careful as the tires have yet to wear in). I asked the fitter to put 35psi in the rears but as I was driving home the car fel...

There is quite a bit of rattling going on behind me when I have the roof down and I'm wondering whether this is normal or if I can do something to quieten it down.

Looking for quieter tyres
I'm currently running Michelins on my 2.8 and find them really noisy (though they are quite worn on the back), so I'm looking for something quieter that won't tramline. Seems line the Falkens are pretty popular with Zeds but are also a directional tread, which I understand are noisier than assymetri...

I've got a couple of cans in the boot, but reading the local reviews indicates roughly a 50% success rate. There is also a bit of debate on whether the stuff wrecks your tyres, so I'd rather not take the chance unless I have to. Hopefully I'll never need either the cans or the spare, but if I get a ...

Spare wheel
I decided that I would take advantage of the nice sunny weather and daylight to remove the spare wheel on the Zed. Thinking I'd better give it a go now rather than on a wet night, a flat tyre, a passenger and luggage in the boot. So I followed the directions in the boot and removed the wheel without...

First drive in the rain
I've only owned the zed for a couple of weeks and with some trepidation went for a drive in the rain today. Trepidation as the hood is the original with a number of wear marks on it. However I'm pleased to report - no leaks! And the only moisture encountered was on my leg when I opened the door, yes...

I've loved the look from the first time that I saw a Z3, as to me it is a modern version of the classic British sports car (which is also why I'm so pleased with my Dark Green 2.8 with tan interior and wood wheel). But also it has all of those nice BMW touches that I've enjoyed over the years. When ...

Parked next to a Z4.....................
My wife and I were out for a drive the other day and ended up parking the Zed next to a Z4. I said "which looks nicer to you the Z3 or the Z4?" She said "the Z4 and I wouldn't mind one!"
