There are 2 speeds and ground wire. I think ground is the brown wire so you should connect 1st speed wire and ground to test that speed and then second speed and ground to test the faster one. Generally speaking is the replacement cluster going to show the original mileage without tempered dot if you just transfer the code plug of the original cluster?

Front upper strut mounts?
I am thinking of replacing the front upper strut mounts. I can see that the new ones have an arrow and a dot in the rubber where the bolts are and I am wondering if these have to point in a specific direction? I could not find any info online about this?

I have decided to change the power steering fluid.
However I could not find what the original fluid was. Does anyone know BMW part number or oil specifications for the pre-facelift models? Also what is the capacity of the system?

i think it is very unlikely for the water to soak through the fabric. In my opinion it is either the butyl seal or the window that are leaking. Considering that the butyl seal is below that water line on the pictures i would put my money on the window. Also it is not normal to have water inside the ...

The water in the boot is usually due to the third brake light or the antenna grommet.

Usually drain plugs have washers. Could not remember about the gearbox drain plug but it is possible it does not have one.

E30 diffs are pretty much the same. I think the outer flanges are different but can be easily swapped.

the VIN number of the car, your engine comes from is written on the DME of the engine.
So if it is possible to order a key just by providing the VIN number go for it. I think it is the easier option.

It would be great if you can confirm that the drivers door does not trigger the central locking when operated with the key? I always thought i had a problem. Mine definitely does, 100%, as should yours. Why would BMW build a car that doesn't unlock from the driver's door but does from the passenger...

I am pretty sure that the key will lock / unlock the driver door only when used in that door. When the key is used in the passenger door or boot lock, it will trigger all locks. Ok. But the door locks/unlocks with the central locking when i operate any of the other locks. Doesn't that mean that the wiring and switch are fine or there are separate circuits?

I have repaired the boot loom recently so it is not the problem.
I guess the next thing to check is the wiring in the drivers door?
What is the locking switch u are talking about and is there a way to test it?
Also is there a way to replace that switch only or i have to replace the whole lock?

Sorry to intrude this thread but i have a similar problem. When i use the key on my passenger's door I lock the whole car but when i do the same on my drivers door I lock only that door. So does that mean that if you want to install a 6 cyl bumper on 1.9 all you have to do is take the plug from the sidelight in the headlight assembly and plug it in the bumper marker light?

Mine has a plain bumper, no side marker lights, the side lights being in the form of an extra bulb set in the headlights. Maybe a replacement bumper from a later car has been fitted and the side marker lights not connected up to come on as sidelights? Dave. My sidelights are also in the headlights....

I do not think a couple of holes there will ruin the car's structure or affect in any way it's performance.
