Re: 1.9 instrument cluster lamps how many should i have?

Robert, The video's brilliant and definitely proves my point. Thank you for taking the time to put it together. It'll be a great help if I get the same query again. Essentially, my dash light start up sequence is the same as yours. I haven't tried a self test of the dash. Is that still possible on m...

Re: 1.9 instrument cluster lamps how many should i have?

Robert, Just been out to the Z. My label says build date : March 98. So mine is a pre-facelift. When I took the dash pod out earlier today, the lower central window of warning lights had no bulbs at all on the left side i.e. only the brake warnings on the right. If you held the pod up to the sun and...

Re: 1.9 instrument cluster lamps how many should i have?

Hi, I do have a user manual and I actually had it with me today. The dealer even read through it. You're correct that the manual doesn't show any engine management warning light, but this particular car dealer won't even accept that it's not shown in the manual. I guess he just wants a cash sale for...

Re: 1.9 instrument cluster lamps how many should i have?

Should I have an engine management light? Hi, I took my 98 1.9 out today to see what part exchange value I could get at a couple of local garages. At the last garage I visited the owner told me that I should have an engine management light on the dash and it should illuminate at the first turn of th...

Re: M44 1.9 Rough running.

Hi all, Just finished rebuilding my rear brakes. The discs were a real pain to remove this time round simply because of corrosion between the hub face, even with the HB shoe adjusters backed off fully. The cables actually look fine, with plenty of free movement at the expander mechanisms i.e. cable ...

Re: M44 1.9 Rough running.

I've had problems with the handbrake ever since the day I bought the car. The HB lever pulls up hard & there is good resistance by the third click. However, on our 1 in 3 drive way, with the lever up as far as possible the Z3 just simply slides backwards. This is not ideal if you're following a cara...

Re: M44 1.9 Rough running.

Thanks for last couple of emails. I hadn't considered changing the oil as a possible solution. As for replacing MAF's and CPS's, I've heard it from more than one owner that cheap pattern parts can fail quickly or not work at all. I guy at work recently had a poor idle on his Volvo V70 T5. He replace...

Re: M44 1.9 Rough running.

I finally got round to jacking up the Z3 to replace the o2 sensor this weekend. I'd anticipated a siezed thread on the old sensor, so I sprayed the joint with 3M's penetrating oil two days earlier. After removing the under-tray, the sensor was easily accessible on the 1.9 upstream of the CAT. I'd re...

Re: Which suspension kit to go for...

This was a complete kit, four shocks and springs for £330, but I would class it as a budget kit. None of the shocks are adjustable or re-buildable. It wasn't my main aimn to lower the car, I just needed to replace the shocks at a reasonable price. You can expect to pay a lot more for Bilstiens etc. ...

Re: M44 1.9 Rough running.

Thanks for the pointers. I'll start by unplugging the MAF and then check for leaks in the air inlet downstream of the MAF. One strange point is that fter reading the P0130 code, I cleared the memory via the hand held reader. However, with the car still running rough the code has not re-appeared. The...

M44 1.9 Rough running.

My aging M44 engined 1 .9 Z3 has suddenly started running very rough. It happened 'out of the blue' whilst enjoing the sunny weather two weeks ago. Prior to the fault developing I had replaced my offside front caliper as it was begining to bind quite badly. I'd received an advisory at the MOT in Jan...

Re: Air Bag light

My airbag light has been on since the last MOT in Feb 2012 and I was advised at the time to get it fixed before the next one as it would be a failure (rules change in 2013). The garage ran a diagnostic on the car and said my passenger occupancy sensor was at fault. Eleven months on and I took back t...

Re: rear strut mount question

Hi. I've had my rear shocks out quite a few times recently and my top nut (on the piston rod) was 16mm AF hex. I think you'll have a hard job clamping the flats of the piston rod whilst trying to undo the nut from inside the hood stowage area though! I have Rogue Mounts on the back now, but I still ...

Hi, Thanks for the suggestions. I had a crawl around under the back of the Z last night before it got dark. My ARB bushes look & feel fine i.e. no play there at all. Luckily while under the car I did notice that my rear exhaust hanger bracket had lost three of its four spot welds, so I've bolted tha...

Re: Vittaloni wing mirrors fitted

Baretto, I guessed the purists wouldn't like the Vitaloni's, but it's got to be better than gaffa tape if your original mirrors have broken. Fitting second hand mirrors is the obvious option, but you have to be very quick or lucky to pick up spare Z3 mirrors at the moment. Few cars have the mirrors ...

Re: RSM's & rear knocking on bumpy roads.

Hi, Previously I had HD Meyle mounts fitted. These had two flange nuts fitted on top of the oval strengthening plates from inside the hood stowage area. These were tightened to 20 lb.inches. The Rogue mounts come with a similar strengthening plate, with studs facing downwards. So you have to fit the...

The nearside, although not broken, is also corroded solid. I've soaked both with release fluid while they're off...

Thank you for the replies. I'll try checking the fuse first as there's no sign of life in the passenger seat adjuster at all, so it won't move vertically or back & forth.
