Re: Ginetta G27 build thread
Looking good, always good to see some custom fab work! Don't worry if you find you've got too much KPI, the result is increased positive camber on turn in - but that's what castor is for! Just dial plenty in and you'll be fine. Will feel it in your arms though from the feedback through the steering ...

Cheers Mark,
Ginetta build sounds interesting! What are your plans? Have you got a thread running?

Brilliant, cheers. That's exactly the kind of swaps I'm looking for. Will hunt those parts down. Any other ideas?

Re: as.racing Britcar Production Cup - BMW Z3 1.9L Build
Haha, yes I got that book a while ago when I used to have my Mini. It's still relevant now, especially all the carb stuff as I'll be designing and making my own carbon inlet manifold and trumpets! What weight saving did you have in mind with the transmission? Didn't measure the torsional stiffness o...

Re: as.racing Britcar Production Cup - BMW Z3 1.9L Build
Thanks for the comments so far guys! It's good to get some feedback. Interesting points Pingu, and yeah I guess their position is primarily for aesthetics. That's not to say though that they're inefficient in this location, but could be even more effective. Is this an area you just have an interest ...

Re: as.racing Britcar Production Cup - BMW Z3 1.9L Build
Yeah, have decided to stay with the 4 pot, as dictated by the different classes and my budget. Fortunately the Britcar rules state a maximum power to weight ratio, and as the car will be pretty light I don't need to get much more power out of the engine. I'll definitely be making the following mods ...

as.racing Britcar Production Cup - BMW Z3 1.9L Build
Evening all, Thought I'd post the project I'm currently working on, I'm about a year in now and finally have some decent progress worth sharing. I'm building a car to compete in the 2013/14 UK Britcar Production Cup and try to keep the project updated fairly regularly here: http://www.asracingblog.c...

Re: Carbon fibre/fibreglass bonnet interest
Evening, I'm way behind schedule on the composite parts but am starting the moulds for the smaller items like the front quarter panels & boot lid this month. If there's enough demand, I can make additional glass or carbon parts. Price will depend on interest, but bear in mind these will not be d...

Re: Breaking My Z3
Greg01, I do have the sills, however, they're part of the complete interior which has been provisionally sold I'm afraid. If this falls through though, then they're yours! pingu, Thanks very much for your comments. My plan is to try and generate a lot of interest in the project so I'll be frequently...

Re: Carbon fibre/fibreglass bonnet interest
I wouldn't get too excited unless you are racing only. asracing , will you be making road-spec panels as well, or just ones for your race car? Just the race panels to begin with, but if there's enough demand for the road parts we'll see... Zcootz, May take you up on that, will give you a shout in a...

Re: Carbon fibre/fibreglass bonnet interest
I'm well aware the hardtops are already fibreglass, but they're chopped strand rubbish and way a ton!My aim is to take weight out of everything I can, so I'll be making a copy of it, but using about 1mm skin thickness of glass, maybe less and in carbon. We'll see....

Re: Carbon fibre/fibreglass bonnet interest
Simply because I don't have the panels. If I can get hold of them then I'll do the widebody panels instead.Zcootz wrote:Lightweight and secured by aero-catches or pins is fine and dandy with me!
Just out of interest, why are you not going for the wide body or facelift rear panels?

Re: Carbon fibre/fibreglass bonnet interest
Hi Andy, Very interested in your project I will watch your blog with interest, and hopefully pick up some tips for the road on my M44 One question on your road panels (not your race), will they be bagged with a room temp cure or a two stage @ temperature cure and have honeycomb strengthening ribs? ...

Re: Carbon fibre/fibreglass bonnet interest
Stu, Just read your first post. I plan on making my bonnet (and all other parts) very simply, as minimising weight will be the only priority. Therefore, I'll only be reproducing the bonnet outer surface and not the internal skin as well. I will be "any numpty" and will simply drill through...

Re: Carbon fibre/fibreglass bonnet interest
Sounds good to me Andy. Can you just confirm how you engineer the bonnet hinge mounts and latch mounts please? Those areas will be locally re-enforced with extra plies to create hard points. To be honest, the parts will really only be suitable for track use - i.e really light (not very stiff and pr...

They're included in an auction with the seats on ebay at the moment I'm afraid. If the auction doesn't sell, then yeah you can have them separately.

Heater Matrix Pipe Sizes
Hi,
I'm looking to remove my heater matrix this weekend. Does anyone know the inside and outside diameters of the supply and return pipes please? Car is a 1.9L 1997 roadster.
Cheers,
Andy

Re: Carbon fibre/fibreglass bonnet interest
Hello all, If you guys are still interested in composite parts I'll be making moulds and parts later in the year for the Z3 roadster (non-widebody), hopefully around summertime. I'm planning on making moulds for: hardtop, bonnet, boot, sills and all quarter panels. Let me know if you're interested i...

Breaking My Z3
Hello all, I'm prepping my Z3 for race use, so have almost all interior (and most other) parts for sale, from interior plastics to control modules etc. Eventually I'll be getting rid of the body panels too (making my own composite copies) including the hardtop. Some parts are up on ebay at the momen...
