Thank you both - my mechanic is sure though that we have 5 wires! perhaps there is a difference in different ages of cars?
if anyone has a 3.0 from c. 2000/1 (mine was build date of 2000/10 and reg. date of 2001) would there be any chance of a photo?

expensive month: - two new rear tyres - 4 x disks - 4 x pads - 4 x shocks - 4 x springs - new radiator - 1 x new link arm thingy but the handling is very much tauter now - was still on the original shocks & springs at 125,000 miles! most of that was by choice - not absolutely required - one weep...

I would expect them to go up eventually...
however the nice thing at the moment is that they are at virtually rock-bottom price, so they can't really go down...

I would agree that if everything else is worn it needs replacing - so don't do strut brace as an alternative... but I can't see it making the car worse even if the other bits are not yet done, so wouldn't be worried about the order in which you do it... I added a strut brace to my 3.0l it transforme...

agreed - strange psychology - my 3.0l of that age has 123k on the clock and is just warming up...

I have a 3.0 and the reality is that you could easily lose licences / kill yourself with the power it has - in dry conditions it is a safe easy car to drive, in the wet / slippery conditions you do need to concentrate much more... I am not sure that in an 'm' you would necessarily use the extra powe...

there seems to be a biggish price hike between the 1.9 / 2.2 models and the 2.8 / 3.0 models (and then of course the m models at the top)
not sure there is much room for them to go down... so they can only remain static or go up - both good options!

I would be worried by a z3 which felt light on the steering at 80, that doesn't sound right...
mine is rock solid at all speeds (legal of course) even on atrocious roads around here...

Couldn't agree more!
the 6-pot might be a bit better at overtaking / winning those races from the lights but in terms of sheer chuckability and fun down a country road, any z3 is a great way to spend time behind the wheel...

It can also just be the contrast with other cars - so many people jump out of a nose heavy FWD car into a balanced RWD car and it does feel different...

Yours looks cleaner than mine! Inside and out... I definitely notice a difference to the car if filled with standard - vPower Shell (local 2 garages are Shell) reuptedly you also get better MPG but I think that is countered by sticking the car in sport and hammering it :) As I understand it the engine / system changes to map against the RON value ...

Apparently everything is now standard... ...with the right adaptor! So I was told by a specialist store when upgrading a head unit... I would suggest googling a decent independent car audio company - tell them what you have and I would imagine they will have a convertor which should be quite cheap.....

Slightly surprised to see that it lists ASC+T, but it may be that the system is fitted but coded for the fact that you do indeed have a Limited Slip Diff (the very first option on your list). The traction control would counteract the benefits of the LSD, so it may just be programatically disabled. ...
