I'm coming back!
Hi. After a couple of years out, I am finally coming back to Z! If anyone is bored enough, heres a little story :rtm: I got my Z3 about 7 years ago, aged 24. About 2 years ago, it overheated and blew the head gasket. Since then i have toyed with the idea of trying to do the change myself, of replaci...

I'm up north. In Runcorn. An ebay search for breakers has brought one up 15miles away at a scrappy I have been to a few times. No details on mileage etc. I'll give them a ring in the morning. How much does an engine weigh? 200-250kg? can i get that in the back of a 1.7d hyundai ix35? (using a hoist)

I was looking at this one:

it is off a 318, so could add complications, but 56k miles!
A lot of reading up to do before i get going though

Hi,
I think you mentioned this on my other thread.
Where are you/the car in the country?
I'm on the look out for a lower mileage engine now, but this generous offer is tempting.
Cheers.

If you can do a ball joint then changing an engine is just a series of jobs of a similar order of complexity :) But it will be a fairly long one if you've never done it before (you and me both, I'm about to do a 2.2). Thanks for all the advise/suggestions. As mentioned I can't do much beyond simple maintenance (I replaced the front ball joints once, that's as involved as i get). If i wanted to put the free engine in i would still have to pay someone to do it, which makes up the bulk of the cost. Sadly my father-i...

everything is fine except this development. Been an awesome car for the 6-7 yrs ive had it. Only thing i was going to get done was a bit of bodywork - little bit of rear arch/sill rust and the bonnet is "delaminating" (i suspect that could be a respray not original paintwork). YOu think i ...

My bet is air being drawn into the inlet manifold by a failure of the crankcase breather valve/cyclone filter, the resultant unmetered air making the mixture weaker than it should be, and being more noticable on a cold engine. At the current not-really-cold ambient temperatures the cold start mmixt...

i would expect 50 miles to cost me £10-£12 or so at todays fuel prices in my 1.9.
£10 gets my fuel gauge from empty to 1/2 tank, it then needs another £30+ to get it the second half. Once it drops below 1/2 i start looking for a petrol station!
