Thanks for all the replies. As money is tight and the mot is long ive had the cat cut out and replaced with a pipe today for £35. They also had to remove bits of the cat that had worked their way into the back box. The result is a car that no longer rattles but it does roar a bit louder now

Just back from a spin with the roof down, the heater works ok too, and after a further check of all the locks it looks like the drivers door actuator is dead. The only way to lock or unlock the drivers door is with the key and the boot and passengers door locks unlock each other and the fob unlocks ...

Glad you enjoyed Silkwood Farm what pudding did you have? With regard to the non starting at the docks I would check the battery connections as it is not too uncommon for one of the terminals to have a bad connection. I bet slamming yhe boot lid down was just enough to dislodge one of the terminals...

Why don't you try putting the reg of this car mentioned in the thread into Eurocar parts or a similar web site I guarantee you it will come back with the correct model and year, this being 1998 and 1.9 even though it has an 01 reg.
