I have mentioned this problem sometime in the past, but never got around to investigating it. My car is a 2000 Z3 3.0i with a genuine 36,000 miles on the clock. It looks well, and goes well, and since replacing the gearbox shift pins it has a nice slick and positive gear change. All in all it is a n...

An addendum to my earlier post on how much I enjoy my 3.0i, I would like to add, that its only major fault is top gear is too low, for comfortable cruising another gear or perhaps overdrive unit would be welcome.

Has anyone experienced or used any of the diff kits supplied by "Bearing Kits" ? I am attempting to cure my noisy diff whine and propshaft backlash with a complete rear axle rebuild. Also is there a publication which gives clearances, torques, and preloads.

I like my 3.0i immensely. I find it difficult to fault, it drives fine, handles well, it is quiet, smooth, slick gearbox, and is comfortable. All in all a very nice car. Have followed this topic with interest. What amounts of oil consumption are we talking about?
