Re: Clunking on acceleration and braking..

Thanks lightning.

I have had a preliminary look at the bracket and all seems good. If it's a play in diff, I will be living with it... But will be looking at a replacement in the coming years as I intend to keep my little Z on the road.

Clunking on acceleration and braking..

Update... Just replaced the rear bushes on the ARB.. Still clunks... Lol... This only happens on acceleration from a start.. And when you are nearly at a stop after applying the brakes. It's from the rear. Hence replacement of bushes .. Area by area... One thing I will be doing over the colder month...

Yes one of the little bulbs seems to be doing the trick. Funny how the BMW dealer even got that part wrong !! Typical.

Spotted a LHD Z3 '2 FDB' in green coming out of London on the A1M then it appeared again at the services. Nice condition too.

Robert,

Just visited Andy, aka spurs fan in a coupe. Have a selection of bulbs to try when I take the switch apart again.

Re: Z3 1999 2.0 Headlight Switch Bulb.

Thank you guys. Robert, the details on item 4 say it's a 1.2w bulb yet forums online say it's a 0.36w ? Is the specification model specific ? The 1.2w blows very quickly apparently. Hence the post to see if anybody had ideas on the 0.36w bulb. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?p=796641...

Z3 1999 2.0 Headlight Switch Bulb.

Help needed.. I am trying to track down a replacement bulb for my headlight switch. Local BMW dealers tracked down a bulb by referring the request to BMW UK.. Guess what. The bulb is the wrong one, it resembles the heater switch more than the small bulb I found when taking the switch apart. Looking ...

Hello,

What's the issue with the badge ? Some z3's were specified with some sports trim and the steering wheel was one of them. I have one on my 1999 Z3 2.0. Does not bother me. Lol..

Re: Clunking on acceleration and braking..

It's not a can or the weights lol.. It's like something is stopping or coming to a stop against a metal object. I first thought it was a sticking brake pad .. Then the clunk as it releases. If that makes sense. I hope to be meeting up with a few z3 owners at some point.. Might even have a better ide...

Re: Clunking on acceleration and braking..

Ok, she's back from Bartley BMW. Dermot the main guy / owner is puzzled as well about the 'clunk'. Brakes check. Handbrake checked. Propshaft checked. Guibo checked. Gearbox checked. Driveshaft checked. Slowing down any gear.. Apply break with clutch to the floor.. Almost to a stop.. Clunk.. Slowing...

It's very sad in a way but we all do it for the love of Motorsport. I love the TT on the isle of Mann as well as being a major petrol head too... One old fellow said once in Ramsey at the TT, The reason they insist on full racing leathers was to keep the body in the bag.. He was at least in his 80's...

I used to think that till I got my z3. If I am heading on the motorway for a distance it's deafening with the hood down or if it's a run to the shops and back..

Now I just think.. Your loss.. I am enjoying it !!

Hello,

You can get a set of plastic lifters designed for trim clips etc. just put 'plastic trim removal tool' into eBay. You can get a full set for a fiver. Works a treat. Good luck and post what you find.

Hello,

You would not have part 18 on the boot trim would you on this RealOEM link ?

I am missing one and it just makes the boot look untidy !!

Re: Clunking on acceleration and braking..

Thank you for the pointers. I have had one email via an old friend who thinks it might be the guibo rubber mount as the car is a 1999 and has never had a great deal of use. So might be the rubber has started to soften since I have done more miles in three months than its done in two years.. If I get...

Re: Clunking on acceleration and braking..

Checked the boot floor and the welds. All good.

I think it's is either the brake pads or the rear shaft linkage somewhere. Have not worked on a car since my old Mk IV ford Zodiac days. So plenty of fun ahead.

All thoughts gratefully received.

Clunking on acceleration and braking..

Sorry if this has been covered before.. I have looked but not much found that can help. Symptoms. When pulling away in first I get a clunk sound which sounds like it is from the rear axle area. On breaking I also get a clunk sound like something is stuck then frees itself. I have ruled out the cv as...
