1999 lowish milage 1.9L Z3 For Sale

I have decided to sell my Z3 so I thought I’d advertise it here first, in the hope that someone (or someone you know) is looking for a nice, lowish mileage, Atlantic blue, original 1.9 L BMW Z3. I’d prefer this to selling it on ebay, because I know she would go to a good home. The car was made in Ja...

I don't know if this helps but I used Renovo reviver and proofer in January 2015 and the soft top still looks good more than two years later. I do have a Stormforce cover as well though, because she lives outside...

I also bought a Stormforce cover last November and I've been very pleased with it. Expensive I agree (and I paid £3 more than you Bowler!) but a good long term purchase in my view.

Re: Air Filter compartment foam lining

Thanks guys Well the foam is gone now, a lot of it just fell apart after I removed the cage that keeps it lining the air filter box. I thought it must be for sound deadening, but maybe for thermal reasons too - to help keep the air cool perhaps... Anyway, it's out now and not to be replaced! I still...

Air Filter compartment foam lining

Hi All Can anyone confirm that the thin foam that lines the top and bottom of the air filter box is there for sound-proofing only? Mine has started to disintegrate and I'd like to take it all out, including the plastic mesh that holds it in - I don't mind a bit of noise! I'm about to fit a Pipercros...

Tired Tyres?

Having had company cars for the last 30 years I don’t pay too much attention to which make of tyres are on a car, but last Sunday I went for a drive in my Z3, top down to blow away the cobwebs, despite large black clouds looming overhead. I’ve had the car about a year and a half now and only driven ...

Re: Seat removal question

Doh! Thanks Daz3, I didn't think of that!

Thanks also to Fender 2004 and bertiejaffa for the top tips.

Very kind offer too William P, but hopefully I won't need it if I follow Fender 2004's advice.

Thanks again guys, will post again when I've done the job.

All the best, Simon

Seat removal question

Hi All Inspired by Antm72's seat re-dye success, I ordered the same stuff (SCUFFmaster dye from Liquid Leather + conditioner and cleaner) and am ready to give my tired seats a makeover. To do a proper job I need to take the seats out, but my Haynes manual (sorry!) says that the battery must be disco...

Was your two-tone colour original? Mine are one colour beige.

Can you tell me the name of the dye product? My Z3 is the same colour as yours and my seats could do with some repair and a re-dye.

Thanks, Simon

Re: For sale BMW Z3 strut brace - 4 Cyl. models

Hi Emek

I'd be interested in this if it will fit my 1999 1.9L without any mods and if it's £60 all in including postage etc.

Do you know the make?

Cheers, Simon

Re: water pump

Hi Paul I changed mine a few months ago (1998 1.9 engine) and it took less than an hour, no problems or special tools required. I had replaced my thermostat (which did give problems) and decided to change the water pump while I was at it. I had read that the ears of the pump which you use to jack it...

Agreed. Mine was the same, completely cured by fitting a new thermostat, but I did have some problems when the heads of two of the fasteners broke off. The temperature needle should point straight up...

Re: Starting Issues 2.8

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the starter motor, but in getting to this conclusion I took Mike's advice and checked with a multimeter that power was getting to it and Robert T kindly eliminated any immobiliser problem. Good luck with your fix. I do think that most starting problems...

Re: Engine won't start - and it's not the battery!

Well, it was the starter motor... New (or reconditioned) Lucas starter motor fitted today by mobile mechanic LCJ Auto Repairs (lewis@lcjautorepairs.co.uk based in Poynton) and she started up first turn of the key. The failed motor looked new, so it must have been fitted not long before I bought her ...

That's very kind of you peter2b, but the die is cast now and a mobile mechanic called Lewis is coming around tomorrow to replace the starter motor. I may be back in touch if it doesn't work (what a nice, kind bunch you are on this forum) but I'll post what happened so if it's fixed others might bene...

Re: Engine won't start - and it's not the battery!

Thanks for the step-by-step procedure Southernboy, it all seems very logical and do-able. Unfortunately, I don't have axle stands (remember that I'm relatively new to working on my own car. Motorcycles, my previous passion, don't need axle stands!). So a mobile engineer is coming to swap out the sta...

Sadly no. Robert very kindly came over on Saturday afternoon and using his diagnostic package he eliminated any immobiliser problem. I used my new multi meter to check the battery and Robert confirmed that everything was OK in that department. So it's the starter motor. Which lots of you guys said i...

Morning all! Well, tried tapping the starter motor and solenoid with a hide hammer, nothing. Ditto when my wife was turning the key whilst I tapped it. Rocked the car back and forth again, but just a click for my efforts (bad shoulder remember!) The only new thing is that there is a distinct humming...

I've recently replaced my plugs with 4 x Bosch FR78X spark plugs bought from GSF which cost me a very reasonable £12.42 with their online discount code. Mind you, I also had to buy a 10mm spark plug socket from Halfords for a fiver, but I'm very happy with the results.

Thanks Colb Mine's a 4-cylinder engine, so the thermostat is a bit different. However, the procedure in section 3 - refilling the system with coolant is good. Thanks Del & Colb for your very quick and informative replies. I did indeed undo the drain plug in the bottom of the radiator, so I'll take a close look at that as a possible source of my leak. The hints on how to get the air out of the system is good stuff too, although I'm surprised that it's ...

Thermostat/coolant problem - help?

Hi All I bought a 1998 BMW Z3 (1.9, 4-cylinder M44 petrol engine) before Christmas. Over the last two months I have been servicing her – changing the oil and the oil filter, new air filter, drive belt and spark plugs. However, the engine didn’t seem to be warming up so I bought a new thermostat whic...
