I may be wrong but wheels protruding from the wheel arch are illegal so arches need to be extended. On staggered wheels tyre sizes are different front to rear to preserve rolling radius ie 225/45/17 front 255/40 17 rear

Springs should be replaced as a pair. A used spring for z3 is now 14-20 years old. Don't mess around with the ball joint replace the lower arm, it's a 15 min job. Brake hose biggest fear is the compression nut seized but a bit of heat should free it. Failing that cut the fitting off and reflare the ...

Years of clean mot results always sets of alarm bells for me. Everything wears and nothing lasts forever. Would rather see advisories. Makes me think it was an honest mot and gives me things to check have been done. Clean sheets on 15-20 year old cars is not the norm.

Re: Pinking (pre-ignition) 1999 2ltre
I wouldn't spray anything into the air intake as it could damage the MAF meter and they are expensive. The best advice for diagnostics is to do one thing at a time otherwise you can end up chasing your tail. Fit your new spark plugs when they arrive as that is simple. If the pinking persists change...

Never had any issues with NGK as they are what I fit as standard to all my customers cars, but after 2 years anything is possible. We're they copper, platinum or iridium. As far as appearance a lack of soot is not in itself an indication of plug condition more and indication of fueling. If the plugs...

Personally if you went to the trouble of checking 2 year old plugs last week I would have changed them as a matter of course. Did you check them on a spark tester or just a visual and regap. What brand are they.

Re: What power supply for diagnostics?
The only power supply that is possibly required when using diagnostics is a 12 volt battery charger connected to the car battery to maintain system voltage. Extended periods of diagnostics can lower battery voltage especially when running system actuator and function tests.

Take the wheels off and check the offsets and widths as printed on the inside of the rims. BMW have staggered offset on some cars and it's not unheard of for sets to get mixed up. Rim width is measured on the inside of the rim with the tyre off. Take each wheel off and see what each wheel is marked ...

Milage is only part of the issue. Your shocks are at least 13 years old if not more if original. To many of these cars are weekend toys. Sometimes the single biggest factor to enjoying a car is seat time. Spend all week driving a dead feeling neutral handling barge and then expect to jump in somethi...

Re: Squealing wheel? (brakes)
A bit of squirt is not really attending to the problem which sounds like either sticking /seized slider(s) or caliper piston. The real problem being lack of use. Get your calipers overhauled as well as new pads. Sadly the lack of use will probably result in the same problems in the future.

Sliders are the pins top and bottom that the caliper moves in and out on. The caliper itself can be rebuild. Kits available to reseal the piston and new dirt seals. Often the piston is corroded, can be replaced but I have found over the years for bog standard generic calipers just replace with recon...

Strip and clean and check for piston smooth travel definitely advised. Replace discs. The pad wear pattern on the outside, especially the excessively wide outer corroded ring indicates a budget pad where pad material widths get reduced to bring down costs. The inner wear I see every day. A result of...

Consistent average over the past year daily use is 25 mpg. AandB roads minimal motorway never short shifted. 2.0 ltr with 154,000 miles no oil added between changes. Maybe half litre used per 5000 miles.
