Re: Z3 sills.....

Definitely get them from the dealer - any used sills will likely be no better than what you removed in the first place. I've had 3 pairs from the dealer over the years for different cars, the last time I ordered I had to wait 2-3 months for a right hand side as they were manufacturing them to keep u...

Re: 2.8 Z3; fitted with LSD?

Hi, Do you know how the diff mount got broken? Is the rest of the body structure fully intact in the area? It would seem very odd for the diff mount to break without other signs (i.e. spot weld failure) unless you've bottomed out on something and it's been given a whack maybe? When you say the mount...

Re: Tape/cd players says “wait”

Hi Mark, Can you confirm whether the wording is simply "WAIT" or "CODE WAIT"? I don't think just "WAIT" on its own is a valid state, and iirc the maximum wait time is supposed to be 90 minutes. Maybe the unit itself is in a wierd state? Try disconnecting it from the car...

Yep, they wanted £9.50!!! Even the person at the dealership was embarrassed! Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to spend the money where needed (I've spent £1000's in parts over the years) but at the same time that amount for a 1cm square piece of rubber is enough to make me look elsewhere first. Sure - I can't speak for the garage but I'm guessing each car is different depending on severity etc. For me it just a few quid over £1000 all-in (including VAT/labour/welding consumables etc.). I did nothing other than chuck the guys the Randy Forbes kit, the additional diff mount and a bunch of pr...

All sorted! I've just picked up the car; won't get chance to look in proper detail until I get home later but everything looks spot on! I found the guys at Cracknells really knowledgeable and efficient, they even took plenty of photos along the way as requested, I've attached a few here. Upon closer...

No, I decided to keep it stock so will get the cross member reinforcement done and have them double up the diff mount with a new one from BMW as it doesn't appear to be damaged in any way (my car has only two suspect welds and no other symptoms so very early). Pretty much the roadster version of thi...

For comparison, the kit cost me £600 and I got hammered on import duty/VAT for another £135.

So £500 is a good deal for someone!

Boot weld repairers around North Yorkshire?

Hi, I've just found that my Z3M is in the very first stages of boot weld failure and I want it sorted before it becomes a real problem. 1997 2.8 for sale

Hi,

Due to a recent purchase of a Z3M my 2.8 is now up for sale.

I'd like to think she has been very well cared for and I'm sad to see her go, but space has become an issue.

I would really like it to go to someone who will treat it the way it deserves!

Hi, After reading so much about other peoples cars I've decided now that I've done some of the larger jobs on mine that I would contribute my story. Not really an issue for the Z3 but when I had Autoglass replace my windscreen on a 1 series a few years back I raised the same question and they said something similar - that the glass was from the same factory as the BMW branded stuff. It would be worth having a shot of the bottom of the "legs" of the deflector as my car had one when I bought it. The dealer tried to claim it was "easy to fit" by simply lifting it out of the holes in the trim.. of course I wasn't having that and if you looked more closely at the...

Agree with Del, I just picked one up for exactly £100 on eBay. You can go a bit cheaper (I've seen them for ~£70) but the photos weren't that clear and I'd question the condition. The seller claimed (as many do) that "all fixings" were present. I had no idea how the deflector clipped on be...
