Well done! I have also done an ABS module in the last week and that makes my second in total. In both cases I bought a module off of ebay for around £30-£40. In both cases they were off BMWs other than Z3s. And to be honest if they are off a Z3 they still need the following issue addressed. Any modu...

A blessing in disguise if Halfords won't touch it.

They cocked up the same job on my brother's Z3 and the new head unit never worked properly - loss of bass. In fact I still need to sort that out by putting an original head unit back in.

The sills are about £130-£150 each from BMW.

Painting let's say £150.

And an hour of removing and refitting at £80.

So as a guide whole job between £500-£600.

An insurance quote is always going to be using BMW panels & parts or worst case a high quality and expensive alternative. And they will look to put eg a new bonnet on not repair the old one. I have exactly the same issue on a project car. But I’m not going to get to it for some weeks. I know all the places it can leak from so I’ll check through and report back in due course. The nastiest one is the roof. Not a difficult job but you need to do your research first and find 6-8 hours for it.

You'd only have 2 mounting points without the pin which may not be enough to stop the torque unseating it I guess. I wouldn't leave it out.

I'll have a look on my brother's 1.9 tomorrow (if i remember - busy day) and see if I can figure out something. I'm not sure cutting it is either wise or easy.

It will almost certainly be the locating pin seized. You can drift it out from the other side. I've had to do that twice but it was on engines out of the car.
