Re: Solar trickle charger

Forgot to mention a 12v Wind generator, when the brother in law got rid of his boat I rigged it up outside the garage and fed it to the car. Worked quite well, always seemed to have enough wind to spin it up and produce a charge for the battery. Bit of an outlay but better than a solar charger as l...

Re: Solar trickle charger

Charger best connection would be direct to battery terminals in the boot although you could use the jump start the terminals in the engine compartment, the loss of current between the jump start terminals and the battery would be minimal given the length of wiring between the two. Don't forget ther...

Solar trickle charger

The Z3 is off the road for the Winter. I've got a solar trickle charger & just wondered how to attach it to the Z3. I use it on other cars by attaching directly to the battery but on the Z3 I noticed it has charging/jump points in the engine bay. Will the battery charge if I connect to these? Also, ...

Re: Sill Repair/Replacement

Thanks for the advice chaps - I thought as much. Can anybody recommend a bodyshop for work of this nature? I've had minor repairs done here and there, which I have been reasonably please with, but would like to be more confident in somebody for such a big job. Travel isn't much of an issue. Thanks ...

Only way to do it properly is replace IMO. About £120.00 each from BMW plus about £16.00 for new bolts & clips.

Yes, it's a fully working key.

Re: Illuminated gearstick replacement

I replaced mine a few weeks ago. There should be two wires under the leather gaitor with a small(white I think) plug on the end. The new gear knob has a plug on the end of it's wires & they just plug together & push the new gear knob firmly in place. Done! Sounds as though you may have lost the plug...

Did mine recently. £110.00 each (20001 model) + VAT plus a few quid for new bolts & clips. Paint as well, obviously.

Worth doing & the only way to fix the problem properly.

Quite a bit!

Wheels refurbished & four new tyre's. Uniroyal Rainsport 3's. Full clean, inside & out. Changed the gearbox oil for Redline D4 ATF. Fitted new Bosch wiper blades & removed the washer bottle to give it a thorough clean as was manky inside! Gearbox oil has made driving the car even nicer!

what sort of money ? was that original Sills, or did you get new... mine have started to go at the ends.. I've just done mine as mine had gone in the same place. The sills cost £110.00+ VAT from BMW. i also bought new bolts & clips which were .70 & .15 each respectively. A trusted local bodyshop did...

Re: First impressions

I agree with you that the Z3 is really well made, and easy to work on. The clutch could be past its best, l had to replace mine due to it being notchy to engage gear when cold. lt's probably the original still in the car. I did all the other stuff first, and it did improve the gear change but repla...

Re: First impressions

Change the gearbox oil, check what yours takes, some use ATF, may be a label on the side of the gearbox unless its fallen off over the years. BMW used fill for life fluid but a change is worthwhile to freshen up the box, gear changes will be smoother after a change, do it and see what you think. Th...

The other thing I can't work out is the drivers door handle sometimes refuses to open from the outside. If you press the door with your knee below the handle it opens! Again open to suggestions on this one. That could just be a little grease required in the lock where the pin goes in. Is that where...

Well I've had the car a month or so & been doing the jobs to get it where I want it. Some tidying to the bodywork including replacing both sills. TBH they were 90% perfect but had corroded at both ends & I'd never be happy with that. A very reasonable £110 +VAT each. Replaced all the fixings with ne...

Be thankful the parts are all available. BMW are one of very few manufacturers to make parts available for their older cars. Try that with Alfa Romeo for instance! And when l had my Ferrari l was told there was "no availability" of flywheels (generally needed replacing with the clutch) Fair point M...

Does anyone know if the sill tread plates are still available from anywhere? My local BMW dealer thinks not?

Failing that does anyone sell the silver strip with 'Roadster' on it?

Re: Wanted Z3 Roadster

If you pick carefully there's nothing shabby about a 100k car with several owners. In fact that's the norm for most Z3s these days and there are many well loved cars falling into that category. The engines are capable of well over 100k and as a summer car you won't be adding that quickly to the mil...

I'm looking for a nice low mileage Z3. My ideal car would be a facelift 2.2 Sport in Topaz Blue with black/blue interior. Must be sub 60K with good history, low owners & as original as possible. Summer use only car. Please PM with anything of interest.

Thanks,
