Washer reservoir damage

Hi, I have replaced my screenwash reservoir twice now in my 2.2 lit 6cyl z3. The plastic bracket that attaches the bottle to the bulkhead keep separating from the bottle, leaving the bracket attached to the bulkhead and the reservoir bottle wobbling around. On the bottom of the reservoir is a plasti...

Re: Suspension clearance

Finally got round to checking the part numbers. I’ve got E7038R and E7039L so it looks like the right parts. Still no idea why the clearance is so tight on the offside?

Re: Suspension clearance

Cheers Pingu, i’ll double check the part numbers on the actual shocks tonight. I’ve only done a couple of thousand mostly dry miles so hopefully the stickers will still be in place
Thanks

Suspension clearance

When i had my z3 MOT’d, the tester pointed out that the offside front wheel has very little clearance between the tyre and the suspension strut. There is only about 1/2 inch between the tyre and the part of the strut that supports the bottom of the spring. On the nearside there is a much wider gap. ...

Re: Not firing on all cylinders

Update...... took the valve cover off. The gaskets around the plug holes were hard and brittle. Looks like a new gasket is needed. Looks like around £40 for genuine or half of that for a pattern part

Re: Not firing on all cylinders

Ok, I did the coil test and there wasn't much change between each one, they all made a slight change when each coil was disconnected in turn. Coil 4 looked a bit white (overheated??). I took the no 4 coil and plug out and it got worse......lots of oil around the plug insulated bit, the tip was dry a...

Not firing on all cylinders

My 2.2 straight 6 zed has started intermittently running rough. I can start up and drive for a while, but then will start to sound like it's only running on a few cylinders. Then later it will recover and run fine. And typically mot is due next week! I have Inpa and kind of know how to use it. When ...

Door speakers

I took the door card off my 2001 z3 2.2 m sport. There is 2 spaces for speakers at the top of the door but only 1 small tweeter was present. There was a mount for a slightly larger speaker slightly forward of the tweeter but no speaker present.. is this normal or am I missing speakers?

Re: Exhaust vibration absorber

if its necessary to remove harmful vibration, why then has my exhaust system not shaken itself to pieces since I removed it? I read somewhere that for the USA market, it was felt that any sort of vibration would detract from the driving experience. I have to be honest and say that between pot-holed ...

Exhaust vibration absorber

My recently purchased 2.2 lit z3 had a strange metallic rattle on the passenger side. I had a look underneath and noticed that the vibration absorber (marked 80hz.) was very loose and wobbly. It looks like the spacers had rusted away, leaving the rubber lump very loose. I have taken it off but still...

Steering wheel soft centred?

My steering wheel is soft centred. When I press it, I can depress it by at least 1cm around the bmw emblem in the middle. Is this normal or am I missing something......like an airbag?

Re: Power steering

I'm a new z3 owner and also found the steering quite heavy initially. Having now had the car up to a decent speed, the steering weight feels perfect to me, when 'making progress'. That little extra weight feels superb and nicely sporty to me.

Pacman socket looks clean enough. I wasn't sure whether i should spray some contact cleaner or not. When i plug in the tool, i go into bmw section, select non x3 model, then select automatic diagnose mode. It then takes about 3 minutes to scan through 44 different channels. Once i've done this i can...

so, 10 days into Z3 ownership and I've already managed to break something. I took a mate out for a spin at lunchtime and he pulled what he thought was the seat adjuster on the drivers seat. turned out it was the linkage between the motor and the inboard side rail. now the seat motor only operates on...

Thanks very much therealdb1, Now that you mention it, when i got the car started, there was an intermittent dull click coming from under the passenger seat about once every 5-10 seconds. I moved the seat forward a little and the noise stopped. I think you may have diagnosed the fault 'long-distance'...

I bought an icarsoft BMII code reader this week, it's one of the 2nd generation type. Re: Illuminated gearstick replacement

Thanks shrs2000,
The plug is missing from mine and the 2 wires have been spliced together. Is the gear knob just a push fit? The metal dhaft on mine has a slot in the top end but there are no fixing screws there, and my leather knob is loose.
Is that price £94 direct from bmw?
Thanks

I'm new to z3's and find the seat in my 2001 model to be quite firm. Theres not much give in the seat cushion though it is comfortable. I thought for a 16yr old car the seat was in good condition and still felt quite supportive.

My illuminated gearstick is broken. The knob is loose and the wiring is broken. Under the gaiter it looks like the 2 wires have been taped together. Hello everyone, I went to the car auction this weekend to look at a cheap Alfa spider.......and instead picked up a Z3 - 2001 2.2lit. In silver with red/black leather interior.
