never had the problem but sound like the main nut connecting the spring shaft to the top mount is not tight enough. :wink:

Maybe the MZ3's S54 are from a different build which isn't affected as much? Or perhaps the drivetrain doesn't put as much strain on the car etc, there must be some reason why BMW didn't recall the S54's in the MZ3? yes, only a few S54 Mcoupe sold so cheaper to pay problems on a case basis than pay...

You will have to pay a high premium I think for an S54 though. It's only a few Bhp (4) more than the S50 but can easely be tuned up to 350ish. It is possible do adapt a 6 speed of an M3evo into the Z3. Would be erfect with a shorter diff, 3.91 for exemple! :twisted:

my guess would be a price around £600.
I am pretty sure that you'll find that all the connectors are existing in your car, just tucked away so it would be "relativeley easy" to fit them. I think, could be wrong though :lol:

Dan,

difference is huge with the M50 manifold, definitely a must do if you have a 2.8L single vanos (built date <09/98). change the car, especially above 4500rpm, pulls much stronger.
easy mod, prooven results, no brainer! :wink:

It's really a simple mod to fit, you should consider doing it yourself if you have time. For tools, all you need is a rachet, an allen key set and a couple of screw drivers :wink: .

I would first check the final drive securing bolts and its rubber mount, then the rubber driveshaft coupling, all of which will respond to high gear/low speed torque reversals - worth a try anyway. as he said + check your rear diff support, you could have the joy to be the first cracked diff in eur...
