Hi Foxy As you've probably worked out from previous topics there is quite a lot of confusion over the early alarms. To get clear advice from the forums, I'd suggest you post a pic of your key (and separate alarm activator if you have one), so people can be sure they are giving advice about the same ...

On an early Zed the alarm is likely to be an after-market version (or at least non BMW), so wouldn't show up on the diagnostics? I'd take it in to alarm specialist and get them to reduce the sensitivity and check out the sensor. Alarms on soft tops are tempermental at the best of times, particularly...

Hi Kelvin I've had this problem with other BMWs before. The culprit then was the alarm which puts a small continual drain on the battery (that was the AA man's theory anyway!) As the car was getting on a bit, I just locked it with key from then on and the battery seemed a lot better. I've not had th...

Hi Car Loss
Try Swifts Autocare in Sheffield. I haven't used them personally, as I stick to the main dealer (Sytners) at mo. Swifts specialise in BMWs and they are the local agent for Superchips. They seem to have a good reputation.

Electric hood - hydraulic oil
My roof had been getting a bit tempermental recently. It wouldn't close or open wthout a little help for the first few inches. I was getting concerned that it may need a new motor, although it sounded ok. The other alternative I'd considered was whether the tension might need adjusting. Anyway, I me...

Sorry Nicky, I don't have any experience of Supaguard. Personally, I'd be wary of putting any aftermarket coating on mine. I'm sure someone on the board had some kind of teflon coating put on theirs and was very pleased with it, but I can't remember who??? Waxing every 3 months or so helps a lot. Ru...

Hi Nicky Silver is the classic colour for people who don't like washing their car! Dark colours like black (and my Montreal blue) will need frequent washing. Rain spots can make it look very grubby very quickly! I think most people would agree that its best not to put a soft top through a car wash. ...

Hi Swacd A fitting kit is definitely needed (unless your car has been 'prepped' already)! The has been lots of discussion of this in the forums in the last few months. Try doing a search. I'm pretty sure a couple of people have fitted the fitting kit themselves. Russell (sorry, I'm timewarping again)

i want a Z3 2.8 in Cosmos Black!! Good choice! I started out looking for black too. I couldn't face a red or 2 tone interior, but all black is good (maybe a little morgue like) and black and tan is a good combination. In the end I decided to look at other combinations too ...and ended up with montr...

The best advice is to test drive both and decide for yourself! But be warned, you might find it difficult to resist the extra power and the sound of the straight six that comes with the 2.8. I was smitten straight away! Also, do a search for insurance on the site. Figures vary hugely from one compan...

Hi Dabs Welcome to the forums. There are plenty of 1.9 owners on here that love their cars! You should be able to pick up a 1.9 for £7.5 - 9K depending on age and mileage. Mid sized engines came later, so are higher priced. The next step up would be a 2.8, which you may find from £9 - 10K for an ear...

Hmmm... The black coupe looks quite good in its own way. If you are going to go for a pimpmobile you might as well go the whole hog! (Breadvans don't have windows anyway!) The roadsters all look pretty naff as far as I'm concerned. Everything above the bonnet line should be as light and minimal as p...
