so long and thanks for the fish

tis a shame, but all good things come to an end. but i've finally got to get myself a practical car, so the z is going, going, gone. its been nearly 4 years and 30k miles since i got it, and its been pretty excellent all round. its never put a foot wrong, or let me down in that time. its dealt with ...

2) seems to be normal. a bit tappety. always has been, even after one of the expensive services when they are adjusted. 3) step in power, yes, but at just over 2krpm, not 4. should then pull all the way to the redline getting better all the way. what else? inspection services are expensive. and come...

blimey

i must drive like my gran as well. mine gets about 185 around town. thats normally with the aircon on 1st and second. about 200-220, occasionally 240 to a tank when out of town on a run. 200 when say in france and pottering at about 100 (kph of course) and about 220 in england at 80-90. 240 say when...

the exact same

yup 2200 rpm on the dot gives a heck of a kick for me. thats about 30mph in 3rd and 40mph in 4th and 50ish in top. give or take a bit. handy for when leaving a lower limit :-) and yes, it does seem like a little bit extra comes in at 5000, not that you ever _need_ it. just in case i'm sure... as eve...

indeed

is a shame it can't be like that all the time.
and i'll definately not bump into your car drew. sounds like many folk don't get the chance to do it a second time...
anyways i must be a bit more mild mannered, (well okay definately) and the car isn't around here any more. must be a vistor.

ah the 'joys' of london (scratch removal)

so some burk managed to reverse into the z in the street as you can see from the pictures below. "wasn't me guv. no way. could of been anyone, etc etc" so i was wondering if anyone could suggest a good place to get this fixed up? preferably somewhere closeish to central london. its on the ...

3 and a bit years

hi i've had one a bit over 3 years now 52k miles and no real problems (a new battery, and a couple of abs sensors - hardly tvr land) running costs and _all_ maintenance, you can find all the gory details at: http://www.pistonheads.com/members/showCar.asp?carId=6458 about £3.5k in cash every year for...

if i remember correctly i've had about 3 wheel sensors go on the blink.
so quite likely to be one of those.
always been covered by the warranty.
seems they collect hits from stones, then get wet. or so the dealers have told me.

a neat trick

i'll see if the trick with the feet/face dial balancing works next time we're out. surely i'll be feeling daft if i've been moaning about that every cold day for the last 3 winters :dunce: nope. its not a coupe, definitely a roadster. see picture on the profile. (another story there. while drooling ...

3 years and counting!

wow. i suddenly realized a week or so back, i'd had the M for 3 years now. it seems like a very long time back on when on January 28th 2002 i picked up a 28,000 mile '98 Silver roadster from taplow bmw. why an M. well having loved fast cars for years, and never really owning a _proper_ one. though i...

boot pic

is this what you were looking for? http://www.londonpics.net/pict0059.jpg no cd changer in the boot, but it does have the HK speaker upgrade. there is a sticker somewhere in the boot saying multichanger ready. originally it had a bmw business cd. but it sort of died. (made a clunking noise, wouldn't...

so how much is the warranty going to cost next year?

got a nice letter last week from bmw asking me to renew the warranty on my M. for the same price as last year if my memory serves me right, £510. odd thing was that this was a bit early as it is due to expire at the end of Jan. This price though is only good until 13th Jan, after that it can no long...

had an mx5 once

a 98 1.8is with 140bhp with the lsd, abs, electric windows, wind deflector etc, if i remember correctly. thinking about it, it was probably the best car i've ever owned to drive on a twisty country lane. if the road was tight enough to keep the speed between say 20-50, then it was brilliant. would s...

all very interesting

thanks for the replys. are all much appreciated. as i only drive about 6-8000 miles a year, mainly weekend driving for the hell of it, i have the luxury of not really caring so much about wear rates or cost so much. but wet performance is an issue as when it chucks it down 150 miles from home somewh...

oh no. another tire thread

fraid so. yet again over old ground. in this case i got up this morning having fetched the missus from the airport last night, only to find the offside rear looking pretty flat. and very flat when i got home (walked) from work tonight. still looking on the brightside it didn't burst and leave us on ...

not so many

21,000 miles in 33 months, or about 7,500 per year. not bad as its the only car in the house, shared between the missus and myself. though i've done 95% of those miles. for some reason she just likes being driven, rather than driving, and i'm not complaining :-) as we live in london its not used for...

1500 miles per light

pretty consistently on mine (98). 7000-8000 miles between each service in the logbook over 50,000 miles
and thats between all types of services.

ageing well.

from my //m i get about 25 mpg overall. its my only car, but my commute to work is on foot, so the only driving is weekend and to the shops. for a tank of 40 litres it varies from about 180 miles around london town in the summer with the aircon on. to about 240 for long slow motorway journeys in tra...

the bolt had snapped on mine

under the drivers seat, not sure which one it was. but it certainly made the seat rock as i stopped. even though it had the BMW warranty i ended up paying. a cool £120 for a 13 mil bolt. the dealer was quite adamant that this was normal 'wear and tear' must say i was a little confused as to how a sl...

same here, its always done it. well for the last 20,000 miles anyway
normally has dropped down to the normal 600rpm within a minute or so, or the second set of lights.
