Hi Exdos, The problem only related to a batch of engines produced in 2001 which were fitted to E46 M3s and late e36/7 Z3Ms. The issue was sorted before the production of the E85/6 Z4M Mine has now been fitted with ARP bolts and new shells. Southcoaster I know, my 2002 S54 M Coupe suffered BS failur...

The Ireland Engineering version of the subframe bushes includes a counterbore in the upper so it sits tight up against the washer on the the big downward facing stud. I would be concerned your 12mm spacer throws of the diff pinion angle (risk of vibration and driveshaft wear). I assume its ok thoug...

Here are a couple of photos I took when I did this job in 2006. THE OEM subframe bushes have lots of movement in 3D and fit fully inside their housings in the subframe, whereas the polyurethane bushes are near-solid and overlap the metal of the subframe at both ends. The OEM bolts on the outboard en...

I fitted the IE camber/toe brackets several years ago to my M Coupe and I would highly recommend them. BUT, it's a big job to do if you don't have a lift and would be expensive if you had to pay someone to do it for you because you need to dismantle the back end to remove the subframe from the car. ...

Whenever you get vibration or wobbling through the steering wheel, the first thing that you should look at is wheel balance. Did the sideswipe knock one of your wheel weights off, was a tyre distorted on the rim or is one of your wheels damaged? Is the tie-rod on the front driver's side damaged by t...

I made a simple tool to do this job, as below. It's simply a piece of stout tube about the same diameter and length as the trailing arm bush housing with a piece of metal with a hole in it welded on one end. There's then a long bolt which passes through the trailing arm bush sleeve and as you tigthe...

Re: Derestricted Exhaust
I had a spare exhaust system, so I thought I'd have a look inside. The first thing to note is that it's a double-skin exhaust. That's plagiarism! Your work is NOT original. Methinks you've been copying my postings on the Z3mcoupe website. Funny that I posted similar photos of "how to do...

Re: H&R ARB adjustment
The rear H&R ARB has 2 holes, to alter the strength of the anti roll effect. Just can't work out which way is stiffer, I assume it's the outer holes as this will give more leverage, can anyone confirm? Thanks, Ian You need to think about this. A longer lever arm makes it easier to apply a torsi...

I'm fitting the Schnitzer splitters this summer and they really should make a difference at exactly those speeds as their purpose is to provide more downforce to the front end at speeds where you would otherwise experience lift / light steering. You'll find that they make a real difference at relat...

Interesting that you mention the squeaky TA poly bushes, I hadn't thought that they could cause squeaks. I'm part way through removing the old ones, so I am going to try the poly's (with lots of lube) and see how I get on. No point spending extra money on OEM bushes just yet, but if I'm posting on ...

Just to confirm what others have already said - getting the rear subframe bushes out IS a total pain. I ended up removing the alloy centre of the original bush by cutting it out with a jigsaw, then using a large hacksaw I cut through the bush steel inner section top to bottom to ease it's grip on t...

Exdos if a bearing shell failure happened now do you think I could get it covered under warranty? I've just purchased an s54 this week. Its done under 50k so still has potential to go pop? I have a 2002 S54 M Coupe. The bearing shell on cylinder No. 5 went on mine at 33k miles in August 2009. It was going very sweetly at the time and then it suddenly started to sound like a Kango hammer. BMW gave me a new engine FOC but I have my doubts that other owners would be so lucky. If I were t...

Another thing people overlook when lowering a car is that by lowering you are also altering the camber (the angle of the tyre to the road). You might see better grip in tight corners, but the car will not feel as planted on the straight and tyre wear will be increased. Additionally, you are also ch...

It was me who started the thread here: http://www.z3mcoupe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8671 It's always a very difficult conundrum to decide whether prevention is better than cure, OR, whether if it ain't broke, don't fix it, is wise? S54s don't suffer from VANOS problems, so you can forget that one. There has been just one, possibly two UK S54 ///MRs that have suffered bearing shell failure. AFAIK the accepted problem was in the middle of the production run, so early and late production examples (yours) were not affected. A. Th...

Re: M Roadster 18" tyre choice
My question is that I have read that Falken 452's get a good write up but I'm not sure if anybody has tried them on 18" rims. Current setup is 235's on the front and 265's on the rear. Any suggestions? If I stick with the Bridgestones I just need the rears but I think that if I change for the ...

I would highly recommend GTR2 for PC and using a Momo force-feedback steering wheel. You can buy both these things off ebay if not new. GTR2 comes with a Z3 M Coupe as one of the many cars, but you can obtain loads more cars and tracks from off certain websites for FREE. I found that practising with...
