excluding tax and insurance and warranty extension my Z4M costs 80p/mile over 40,000 miles.

Sevicing, Tyres, Battery, Fuel, depreciation etc.

It is not a car to run on a budget and I have a warranty on it too.

standard problem on pre facelift Z4's. The lock is exposed to the elements and the lube dries out. I fixed it with regular squirts of mountain bike chain lube (all weather).

On the 2006/7 Z4M's its replaced with two catches - one either side.

You must have a light foot I've never averaged better than low twenties which is inline with most people I know.
I've got 24.5 mpg over 5000mls and get about 27-28mpg cruising at 70ish

I find cruise really useful on the annual trip to Provence, open French motorways, point the car at the sun, pick the speed you dare, set the cruise, sit back and enjoy the view and watch the outside temp rise! It's also really useful for specs camera's etc in roadworks and late night Motorway runs ...

Bad news I'm afraid. They've shown me the email back from BMW technical. Definately can't be done on the Z4M :-( or the 2.0litre version. So they've offered to refund the deposit I've paid. So definitive, in writing answer is No, Nowt, No Way!!! Now I've got to make a decision do I go for the car wi...

Dealer has told me it can be done! So deposit paid, refundable if it can't. The 'master technician' was convinced its possible. They've raised a tech query with BMW anyway. So if they actually do it I'll tell everyone the dealer so you can get it fitted there too!

Can cruise be retrofitted to a Z4M?

Sorry about cross posting I put this question in the Z3 section; maybe a moderator can sort it out?! Anyway...I've found a 2007 Z4M at a dealer - has everything I want except Cruise control. Can it be retrofitted? I have it on my current Z4 a 2004 2.5SE so I guess if its possible I like to swop it o...

I hope that is all I need. I had looked on realoem but it isn't listed for a Z4m - only for the other models and yet it's an option on all Z4's incl the M's. I hoping the wiring loom is there on all cars whatever the model and thus a switch and cover is all that's required.

So, can it be retrofitted, do you have part numbers if I need to buy or access to instructions etc. I nee...

I've just got back from an awesome driving holiday in Provence. I had a chance to play with the DSC. You're right, in the wet it can hold the car impressively in line. In the dry however the power cut is intrusive and can pitch the car. Switching just DSC off but keeping the traction on gives awesom...

if the knock is coming from the rear take a look at the coil springs they have a tendancy to break a couple of coils off, esp the RHS for some reason. My theory is stones hitting the low set coils, penetrating the protective coating, causing a rust spot and stress point from which the crack radiates...

A tight bonnet release isn't normal - it just needs lubrication. Use spray grease intended for bicycle chains - stays in place longer. You can get better access by pulling out the kidney grills. Doing once a year before the winter seems to be enough.

But surely, if the car aquaplaned, it would just go straight on, not dart into another lane? Doesn't that assume your wheels being dead straight? A slight turn of the wheel would be magnified, I would think No, that's the point, when the car aquaplanes, your wheels are sitting on a layer of water u...
