What matters is the VIN - is a BMW or an Alpina?

Alpina Cars do not keep the original BMW VIN. That's what makes the difference.

I note that mine appears to be fitted with E36 M3 items. Hmm I presume you did that in your conversion! The E36 has 5 stud hubs, but the Z1 has 4 stud. It needs freeing off.
Do not use WD40, it tends to evaporate leaving a sticky layer.

Use something like brake cleaner, which will wash out all the stickystiff, and then use switch cleaner which will re-lubricate without leaving a residue
