Given it's a space saver spare and tucked away out of UV exposure and limited to 50mph for a short distance I would be more worried that most people's spares are probably so low on pressure as to not be usable when called upon. As for the main tyres checking for signs of dry rot and shifting belts i...

Testing the throttle position sensor is a good place to start. Shamelessly nicked from elsewhere: At the bottom of the throttle housing, there is a 3-pin connector. First make sure it receives voltage. Pull the harness connector. With the ignition on, you should get 12V between the center and either...

Sorry to hear of your continued aggro with Z1s. :( Insist they use the right plasticisers (sp?) when they respray it else the "stiff" paint on top of the flexible one will craze over time and/or it will stone chip like mad. A cheap respray will age very quickly.

Just checking the Web and found this: Early Z1s had the same rear 258mm rotors as all e30s, while later Z1s have larger 280mm units I don't think that's correct - the Z1 has a unique rear disc not shared by any other BMW. Higher centre wear also comes from under inflation on low profile tyres with their stiff sidewalls. There isn't enough air pressure to prevent the tyre from ballooning slightly at speed.

If you stay with bare but polished ali keep them out of the salt - they will rapidly look like cr*p if you don't. In general 3 piece wheels, even lacquered, do not mix well with road salt as tightening all those little bolts causes cracks and breaks in the lacquer that the salt will get into.
