Have you swapped the left and right controllers to be sure it's the unit and not something else? (wiring to the connector plug or something in the door electrics)

Sorry to hear about your wheel. Have a look at http://www.fillthathole.org.uk - if the hole has been in place for a certain time and not repaired I think you may have grounds for claiming compensation.

1Mio Miles with a constant speed, no acceleration, no bumpy road etc. That's not a real test. I would be interested how this enigine would look like on 50% of the distance - but driven on the nordschleife. That's my kind of testing. The engine would not even survive at 10 % of the millage. :D :D :D...

What happens if you pull the handle again? It may not have latched in the up position and then dropped down under its own weight. It could be the sign of a belt about to let go.

I've run a twin-core cable from the battery into the boot and just plug the battery maintainer in and shut the boot lid. The cable emerges from the battery cover and runs up behind the seat, passing into the boot in the gap below the removable panel.

There's no replacement for displacement. The longer stroke boosts the torque and most 2.7 conversions done by the tuners will have a sportier cam to boost the top end. A crude calculation - 8% more displacement adds 8% bhp (14 bhp) plus 10 from a cam and 10 from more aggressive timing (requiring pre...

Actually the 325e and 528e used a longer stroke crank than than the 325i; 81mm vs 75mm. They both have the same 84mm bore. And the Z1 uses a different variant of the M20 block (same as the 325ix) so a conversion would have to be just be a crank swap.

On a 4 valve engine with a central spark plug you can take a plug out and measure the stroke but on a 2 valve engine that method is difficult to use reliably.

And the bit I left out: distilled water isn't a bad idea given the water hardness in the UK. You can buy it in 5 litre quantities from Halfords and from aquarium supply stores, among others. And some window washers use a system for rinsing that uses de-ionised water; that will do the trick as well.
