Re: Preventative Maintenance

I'm in the midst of another project that's been on the to-do list for ages - installing an E36 steering rack. In doing so I have found what I think is an issue in over-tightening that 32mm nut - the steering column will no longer telescope in the case of a heavy front end crash and the steering whee...

I believe 5W40 full synthetic is recommended however I would not be surprised if you get a variety of answers. Changing the oil on a regular basis to avoid sludge build up is best and you can use a mineral oil on a temp basis to use as a cleaning agent. Be sure to change the 2 small 0 rings in the ...

Re: Preventative Maintenance

There is a half-way house between the standard E30 bush and poly bushes from Powerflex or the like which is the OEM M3 bush that TJS alluded to. It has less compliance than the standard bush but isn't as harsh as a polyurethane bushing. It also adds more caster to the front suspension which means sli...

The autotreff ad is from 2005 so it's probably sold by now. :) The dhd24 ad is almost 3 years old - did they give any indication that they still have the part? The ebay ad says collection only - I can understand that since finding packaging for something as large and fragile as a bumper is not easy.

The control units for the doors/windows are clipped to the inside of the battery compartment cover. Yup, what he said. Try swapping switches left and right. From memory the clips on the surround that hold the switch in place are delicate and may snap off. The good news is that the surround is still available (or at least it was a few years ago - ask me why I know?!).

One way get some idea of value is to find out how hard it is to import a secondhand LHD car into Israel. It would be very difficult. The block on the 325ix/Z1 is different; the oil pump is in a different place and even the sump pans on the 325ix and Z1 differ from one another. In 1998 my 325is would have great difficulty going into 2nd gear in the winter time - it was as though there was a bar across the 2nd gear gate. The requisite amount of MTL later and the car dropped into 2nd when cold as though the box was warm. Night and day difference.

Runflats requires a special rim that has a "shoulder" to support the bead should pressure be lost. Very few tyre shops will fit run flats to conventional rims because of the risk/liability.
