Re: Clock: Digital to Analog

Well a lot of help you all have been... Upon inspiration from another creative zedder - I luckily found a rectangular analog wristwatch which seemed to be a perfect fit to modify an old defective Z3 digital clock '98. The watch face is 38mm high and 36mm wide (Q&Q Quartz model #VR30J002Y) eg http://...

Re: Clock: Digital to Analog

Here is a discussion - but I expect is only for facelift? as the analog clock PN 62138383663 is not suitable for the rectangular opening of the prefacelift. https://zroadster.org/threads/how-to-change-the-digital-clock-into-analog-clock.2590/#post-48493 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1999-2002-BMW-Z3-ANALO...

Clock: Digital to Analog

It's an old subject with not definitive answer anywhere.
Can someone advise what analog clock is a retrofit for the rectangular digital clocks in the preface-lift console?
Much appreciated & have a nice weekend.

Re: Door Button / Actuator / Latch

Ok - thanks for the inspiration. I did it once - it'll take under a couple hours. I was stupid to put in a complete Actuator/latch assembly from a breaker considering the cheap prices on new actuators. Motormec don't seem to stock this actuator anymore and the best deal seems to be the VDO part ment...

Re: Door Button / Actuator / Latch

What was you mode of failure - I'm still trying to figure out if it's the actuator or the latch assembly beneath it. A hint that it's the actuator is that it works when the sun is shining and is more erratic when it's cold outside. A Pelican tech claimed somewhere that this indicates it's probably t...

Re: Door Button / Actuator / Latch

For some reason I'm gambling on the actuator and don't fancy going for another second hand one. (If I was not afraid of screwing up the other door, the best idea would be to swap the actuators on both doors and see where the problem ends up) Anyone tried this? http://www.ebay.com/itm/VDO-BMW-3-5-Ser...

I removed the door card and had a look and found that my rods are connected properly as per the picture below. I like your insight about the position of the link rods. I did not think there was more than one way to insert.
Which one are you referring to? The inner handle or the button and how do I know which is the "right" way?

OK - back to where I started.
Mechanism is acting up again - 2 months after putting in a used mechanism (actuator and latch)
I'll try lube again and see how I go. I wonder what point there will be in putting in a third latch/mechanism (unless I go for a new part...)

Tale of a Z3 fuel sender unit (300k km)

As most know, there is a Z3 gremlin where the fuel gauge becomes erratic. Years ago it was diagnosed as gunk on the copper surface of the gauge “potentiometer”, where contact is made with the floating arm. The fix documented by a BMW bulletin was to replace complete sender unit for “complaining cust...

Re: Central Locking Door Actuator replacement

Here is a tip to overcome the difficulty everyone encounters when replacing the window guide. Remove the rubber window seals. One can then clearly see the position of the window guide from above, and it's then easy to slide it upward in a clockwise motion into place.

The uniformity of plastic materials... After 16 years, the ledges (closest to the handbrake) that support both my window switches failed within one month of each other. These two are pretty standard so I did not even list them- On a lift: 1. Check the rubber exhaust mounts and support welds 2. Check there is no rattle on either sides of the petrol tank due to softening of the foam above the support straps 3. It can also be the engine mounts that is reflected by a k...

Re: Dodgy door lock / hello

It's quite hard to get access whether you remove the door card or not. But if you give a very generous douse of silicone spray and or WD40 -it should release for an extended period (12 months). Obviously if it's just a stuck solenoid.
