The camo had several layers of pigment and a clear coat of protective lacquer which seems to have provided remarkably good fastness properties. Unfortunately, the amount of paint on the surface of the leather probably prevents it from returning to its original size after you've been sitting on it fo...

I've been offered the standard battery for the Z1 today for £89.95 by a local specialist. Unfortunately, the specialist didn't like the look of the cat's cradle of cables in the battery compartment, nor the prospect of knocking out the electronics if they failed to maintain continuity of feed to th...

I've got the same clicking symptoms. My battery has a label showing it was fitted in May 2008 which seems a very short lifespan. Charging the battery for a few hours revives it as long as I use the car at least once a week. I'm just about to go out to the garage and take it off charge now and take i...

It was good to meet you all yesterday at the Pheasant. It lloks as if you have better weather for the Gaydon event today.
I'm working today so I still have one very travel-stained Z1 in my garage.

Would my Z1 and I be able to join you for soup and sandwich at the Pheasant and to go to Charlecote?
I hope it's not too late to join. If it is, I'll just come up to Charlecote Park.
I need to get back to the Banbury area for Saturday evening anyway.

I don't think Mrs Clarkson owns the car any more. I understand it is the one that has been on almost permanent display at North Oxford BMW for a couple of years and that it now belongs to one of the staff. It looks as if it has had some TLC in the past few months; in fact it's almost as good as mine!

Thanks, Pat. The description of your hood wear is exactly like mine. I'm wondering if a smooth plastic cover could go over the iron that seems to cause all the problems. Am I right in thinking that this happens predominantly on the left hand side where the driver probably presses more firmly while s...

Whwn I bought my Z1, the previous owner gave me some new rubber gaskets for the headlight covers which he had bought but not fitted. When I got condensation under one of the headlights, I decided to fit the gaskets but couldn't work out how to take the glass off. I released the spring clips at the t...

Thank you everyone for your comments. I was pleased but also a bit suspicious of CarHood's price of £820 since someone is currently selling a Z1 on Pistonheads with a new hood that cost £3800. I don't want to pay more than necessary since I don't deliberately start Z1 journey wih the hood up. As Cha...

Z1 hood

I've recently bought a Z1. It's in fine condition and great to drive but there's frayed area in the side panel of the hood. It doesn't yet leak but it is rather unsightly, so I want to get it fixed over the winter. A local hood maker said it wasn't repairable and quoted about £1300 for a new hood. T...
