The system on these cars is fairly old these days and I'm afraid I don't buy the concept that it takes weeks, and several tanks of fuel, for the ECU to "re-adjust" to a fault being corrected. Are we saying that if I ran my car with 3 spark plugs, then replaced the fourth, that it would then take up...

Spacers are evil. Try to avoid them if possible for your own safety and peace of mind. Just get the wheels with correct offsets.

R17x10J ET33 wheels for rear and R17x8J ET33 for front will give you perfect stance with stock suspension (check my black z3 from sig for pics)

Can it be that you have trailing arm from 4 cyl z3? Few z3 already spotted like this. In that case you need to change also drive shaft. Or you can put 35 mm spacer to even with another side.

I would do poly bushes everywhere (apart from diff bush - keep it OEM or you might feel vibrations on neutral) and add front strut brace (easy and not expensive mod). Regarding aero - stock car lifts front up on higher speeds, making it less grounded, so no need for rear wing, but some lip on front ...

Maybe I am wrong, but M54 don't like high revs and has more torque at low end as opposite to M52. And for M52 there are more cheap add-on possibilities for increasing power.
