Hi Ross, you can try this http://www.mz3.net/articles/259.html If it fails you can always pay the dealer to do it, although people swear by this article :) FYI there is an alarm remote on eBay, you might be able to get it for less than the dealer. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&cate...

From what I've been told it's about £300 for parts and then you add labour to it.

I've also been told that it's a straightforward addition but I've not taken the plunge yet and I can't really comment further.

Sure thing MrTim it'd cost me around £100 in fuel so my saving would be about £200. Around the same as taking it to my independent friend perhaps? I would still like to get it done by a BMW garage and I'd enjoy the drive but the cost also involves days I need to take off work, accommodation while th...

Me 2, although this would be more difficult, given the fact not everyone would be able to travel to London in order to save 35% (only to spend it on fuel!!!) This is a GREAT idea and it would be even better if we could organise "fix it" days too, but it would need to be organised for 4-5 groups (one...

how do you plan to get the sticker out? Must be a dead PITA and for £163/gill, I'd be very worried about damaging them...

I think the M gills they look so gorgeously retro, should be standard on all Z's. If you manage to get the sticker off, they should look just perfect.

Let me tell you, if I was an insurance company, first thing I would do is provide quotes analogous to the UK average income and age of the car... What we get right now is just pure rip-off. I can't see why a spanking new 3-series has to pay the same insurance as a 1992 E36, when the difference in ma...

I think the EU should get to work and pass legislation to allow people to buy insurance from companies abroad, like you can with all other goods and services. Just for comparison sake's, a friend of mine who lives in Greece is 25 yrs old and has his TT-R (180) insured for 300 euros, fully comprehens...

I guess that this really depends on how badly the previous owner needs the seats. I've seen seats go on ebay for less than £100 a pair. I think there is now a guy on ebay who has 2 crashed facelift z3s and he's selling parts, the full leather interiors are going for £400 (I think its the standard se...

I've never had a problem with "unnecessary hazards" due to glare from any car that had its foglights on. And true enough foglights are down the bumper for one reason, to provide extra light close up and not far away, we use the main beams for that. So some people either have vampiric eyes that are t...

Excuse my ignorance but.. can you seriously get pulled over for having your foglights on??? Is there such a section in the road code? I do that all the time, especially in the early evening hours as I think it's a whole lot better than driving with just your sidelights on. Hell I'm sure I've been pa...

Do you mean the kit by Prewoodec http://www.prewoodec.de

You could order it from them but I think there are several other places in the UK that stock it. A google search should come up with some results.

Ok I have found this and I will check it out tomorrow... I have booked an appointment at a local specialist but hopefully I might be able to get this sorted on my own. Next, fixing the subwoofer.. and drilling holes for speakers behind the seats :) BMW says it can be done, can't see why it shouldn't...

Update: After fiddling with the LED (hopefully without breaking it), it now flashes very quickly for about 2-3 seconds once the engine is switched off and the key is removed. At the same time I get a kind of three-note sound that goes off for three times. Neither button on the remote does anything (...

BMW alarm & independent recommendations?

Hi all I recently bought a used Z3 which came with a factory-fitted alarm (I believe it is the factory installed one, judging by the remote). However the alarm had stopped working a couple of days before I bought the car and the guy didn't have time to get it checked out, so I paid him less and deci...

Got one :))))

Hi all :) Finally I managed to get a little Zee to call my own :) Silver 1.9, early '96 model (battery in front), LHD as I wanted it and a mere 30K miles (49,600Kms) on the clock. I have a couple of quick Qs for the experts here: The last owner replaced the stereo with a Sony CD player and got new s...

Funny how you tend to overlook the obvious so...

Is it the area? I can't think of anything else... Oh I will add my gf and see if that works...

Thanks for the pointer, I've tried them already but apparently they can't contact many of the listed insurers so I still have to go in manually :( In any case, I was wondering what other ppl in similar circumstances might have been quoted, so I can see what a reasonable price might be. £700 sounds a...

Insurance (quickie)

Hi all, Looking to buy my 1st z3 currently and I've been quoted £789 for a 96(import) 1.9er by Adrian Flux, then Elephant was a bit cheaper at £710... Is this about normal for 25 yrs old, 7 years NCB and 0 motoring offences (i'm a good guy :P)???? I've noticed other ppl getting quotes of around £300...
