Yes it depends where you are, always leave windows up, The only time I had any problems was with a Jag XK 150, left with hood up, and some one slashed it with a knife.

Mike, For the 3L, and I assume the 2.8L would be the same I thought the M54 tappets were mechanical not hydraulic?? But on checking found this description [Valve drive Cup tappets with hydraulic valve play compensation] So I assume you adjust as normal with shims but what is meant by compensation???...

Did they balance them? does the s/wheel kick side to side? if so see if increasing speed makes any difference, you may be able to drive through the wobble, if so get them to recheck balance

I've applied the BMW reproofer, the Z has been out in the sun drying and now its back in the garage but the cloth has a slightly sticky feel. Is that usual? Not when it is dry. Just checked mine, proofer says to clean first. no instructions at all with cleaner, but am sure it will say to proof after cleaning

I also have a steptronic 3.0 2002 and it is as smooth as a babies bottom, but I seldom use the steptronic as the auto and sport mode are so good.

You do have to check the clearance before slamming the Bonnet down

a small cone made of blue tac or similar will do the job, but a bit late in your case
