HI, I took youir advice Bert and used some canvas water-proofer from Ray's Outddoor World here in Tasmania. It worked a treat and only cost me equivalent to GBP7. I think I will treat it annually unless it starts to stay wet.

I believe 5W40 full synthetic is recommended however I would not be surprised if you get a variety of answers. Make sure you read up on the procedure to replace them as it is quite a bit of work!

As a temporary fix I am using large gauge heat shrink tubing placed over the two ends. Hmmm might run out and do that now.

You do not program the EWS to recognise the new key - it has to be one of the 8 chips - but you can tell the car not to respond to one or more of the keys (in case one is lost for example).
