There is evidence that warming an engine on tickover creates more wear and is enviromentally unfriendly rather than driving away and letting the engine get to operating temperature earlier. I didn't say the engines fail after two years. The company car me brother in law has is sold on after two year...

I've always subscribed to the opinion that to let an engine idle from stone cold to warm it up is a receipe for an early grave for the engine. My brother in law has this facility in America but the car is only kept for 2 years then sold on. Let the engine idle whilst seat belt is fitted etc just to ...

Can I just say that sports cars, traditionally, have always had a distinctive sound/rasp/roar to there exhaust note. This is distinct to the guy that shoves a dustbin style/size unit on the back of his Clio/Corsa/Nova etc and sound noisy and take ages to go past because they just aren't as fast as t...

I don't see the problem. The thread that Robert posted and I repeated shows what a ceramic cat looks like in side the box. It is not formed in a tube. The resistance would be too great for the engine to run efficiently. Your best bet would be to take the unit to a reputable mechanic and ask his opin...

There is no cavity. The material inside the chamber fills the chamber. The exhaust gas passing throught the honeycomb undergoes a change through the chemical reaction once the cat has heated up. Have you read the link that Robert posted? http://www.2carpros.com/how_does_it_work/catalytic_converter.h...

Have you had the car long? It's not unheard of for the cat to be removed and a straight through fitted in order to get better breathing from the engine exhaust. Even 3lb back pressure was considered to be quite a reduction in power output at the wheels when cats began to find their way into the exha...

A little late but here are my images of the day. http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/Wessex121/SantaPod2009?authkey=Gv1sRgCLyktdu9zYiqTQ# If the movies work of the Jet Car then try hooking it up to a decent hi fi and turn the volume up. That's probably 1% of the volume we heard. As it sped off the noise w...

Good day Ian thanks for the organisation. Surprised at lack of ZZZs apart from our effort. Could do with a stand and banner next year. I recruited a lad frrom Rochdale who wanted to join but wasn't sure who we were or where to get involved. Watched the Jet car movie and because of the noise I protec...

The handbook for my 2.8 auto recommends 98 rated fuel. When I first bought the ZZZ there was a fault with the camshaft sensor. At first we experimented with 95 octane and the higher stuff. No difference until the sensor was changed and we visited Germany for the Edersee Tour. Our first fill up was i...

Most interesting. I didn't realise that the viscous drive was anything more than a fluid coupling that drove the fan at tickover but not faster as the engine revved so not wasting power at higher revs. In other words the coupling slipped. Now, when I first drove the car home, 2.8 auto pre facelift, ...

I suppose when you come to think of it an abcess is poison. When it gets to your blood stream then it will kill you. We don't think of it like that though. It's more of an irritant. I got bitten by some insect last year. I react to bites but usually they go with a dose of anti histamine. Anyway this...

The fault on my 2.8 Auto is pointing to some sort of sensor problem. Possibly the MAF. When the car is cold and through the warming up period the power output seems fine. Mind you with all this rain about, not surprising people are thinking of battening down the hatches and pushing up prices! Mind you I won't pay over the odds prices. Next year's weather might be good....
