Introducing Son of Zed
As some of you will be aware, my green Z1 met with an unfortunate accident and is now being slowly reconstructed elsewhere. Not one to be dissuaded, I bought another and have just finished having it fettled (some mechanical, some cosmetic) which included having the hardtop resprayed to dream black. ...

Re: wow
Senna, That system looks brilliant, must have been expensive! I like the nouvalari system as it sounds better than my BTB and was thinking of getting one as they are so cheap but after visiting Pierre and noticing his pipes have gone a gold colour i'm not sure how good the quality is long term. I g...

Cheers. Yes, it was a bit of a mission. But fortunately, apart from losing one bit socket from the power drill down one of the door apertures where it happily vanished off into the underside of the car never to be seen (mercifully wherever it is at the moment it doesn't seem to rattle!), it all went...

Re: Right hand drive
Have just returned from a fortnight on the French Riviera in my Z1. Had a great time posing around Monaco and looking at the fantastic cars parked around the casino area. On returning to England and whilst waiting for the ferry at Le-Havre a guy spoke to me who said that he had a right hand drive Z...

Feeling very pleased with myself. Spent a few hours this morning with my toolbox and have managed to fit the hardtop mountings from the old car on to the new car. I confess I felt a bit nervous taking a power drill to my car and I've discovered that nuts makes reasonable substitutes for washers wher...

Well yes, free work is free work. They aren't actually a backstreet greasemonkey set-up. It's in fact a large and smart garage which is just around the corner from my house. It holds itself out as a BMW/Merc specialist and is usually full of Ferraris and Astons and whathaveyou as well. Last time I w...

Yes, same bunch of talented individuals. They agreed to do about £1500's worth of servicing and cambelt change on the new Z1 (which it needed) as a goodwill gesture after I went and read the riot act at them and waved my business card around. They have also now agreed to respray the nose-cone. But a...

Aaargh!
I am not having luck with Z1s. Just went this morning to collect the new car from the garage where it has been having a major service and cambelt change to find it now sporting a particularly unattractive new scuff all along the RH front (it starts in the grille and has a particularly deep bit on th...

Nice. I used to have something very similar on a Mk2 Golf GTI 16v. But I don't think that style suits the Z1.BBZ149 wrote:Jonny, how about these BBS RS bad boys?

I should point out that my green Z1 was written off in an accident a couple of months ago and that's why I ended up with this black one. The green one felt perkier (more grunt), although a tankful of V-power seems to have done the black one the power of good, and makes a much louder noise than the b...

Re: Make lenses clear
Jonny, you cannot leave it on there too long as it gets into the grooves and goes milky! I did mine then washed it clean with water and kept doing it till it was all clear then filled the lens with water and left it standing for a while. And the orange comes off a lot easier with a new pair of lens...

Re: Make lenses clear
I did it with methylated spirits and a small paint brush. Worked perfectly and very quickly unlike my first attempt :? lens is now perfectly clear, and it did not harm the plastic in any way. Hmm. I followed this advice yesterday on my spare set of front indicators and, whilst the meths did work ev...

Cheers Sam. I did consider the hoover option. But the headlights steamed up a treat last night when I used them for the first time so in fact perhaps disassembling the lamps and removing and drying out the silica baggies in the oven might not be the worst idea in the world! Good tip on the tar spot ...

Alloy wheel options
The more keen among you may already know this, but I thought it might be of interest to anyone looking for new/different alloys (perhaps in a 17" size) to note that, given the general lack of alloy options designed specifically for the BMW Z1 or in that fitment, it in fact appears that alloys d...

Anyone want a vaguely Z1-related numberplate?
New car came with the registration "XAZ1470", which I shall be taking off shortly to replace with my own personal registration. Am not interested in it myself so minded to just let it lapse rather than pay to put it on retention, but if any of you fancy it, you can have it for the cost of ...

Back in the saddle
Hurrah! Picked up the new Z1 yesterday in Henley and very chuffed with it. Goes very well - really noticeably better for a tankful of V-Power and a good run to Guildford and then on to London. Sounds much quieter than the old one but does still make a rather nice noise. Interior in better nick than ...

I agree that aesthetically the BTB system suits the car though I hate exhausts where you can see little pipes hiding inside showy large openings (step forward many modern cars). I think I'm just used to my last car, which was really quite a noisy little beggar. Mind you it has an LSD and went like a...

Many thanks - don't suppose you know what their hourly rate is? Don't know if the original fabric is available but I don't like it at the best of times and have never been a stickler for originality, so would take the opportunity to have it re-trimmed in normal mono-colour leather (contemplating bla...
