Thanks for the feedback guys. You making me worried (!) but remember this solution is only to stop what was a small amount of water (the bulk was sorted by silicone). I after running one row of tape I thought I'd better do it properly and do a second row, it's a pain getting in there with roll hoops...

I would check out both for comfort and refinement if you doing 30k per year.. Not sure how much more refined the z4 is over the the z3 but when doing 30k per year it might make notable a difference... Don't forget about the 2.8 Z3, more plentiful and cheaper than the 3.0. I had a 330i on lpg too man...

No not removed hood, just applied it inside the car where the hood meets the body (shown in my post further up). So there is butyl tape sealer running inside the car over the area where the hood seal frame and body join (including the the bolts). Should have said the tape is 10cm (100mm) wide not 10...

Do you guys remove the outer rubber seal of the hood before applying the silicone and crack cure stuff? Initially I didn't but after reading that on here I did (I only put crack cure from the outside in). The silicone was done from inside the car only. I never did put in any from the outside in as ...

Seems that labour involved to put the inserts in is not far off replacing the bush provided you are able to remove the bushes.

BMW make a wiring harness adapter that should allow plug and play, bit pricey but simple solution:

You will get wear on the inside edge on any BMW and more so the Z when lowered.

As Captain said above swap the tyres over. It's what I do to double the life. I do it every 5-6k miles. The 12k miles you got on those is very good going in my book.

Hi Jontt, I read your very useful article and Mikes, luckily mine is stage 1 airbag so simple. My car is quite sharp already with coilovers and lower profile wheels so would want it too pointy but can do with improvements for sure. The 320mm seems a lot more available new and used... Rust is more model specific than any brand I feel. The BMW e46's rust more than any Honda I have had. You can swap the metal bases/frames over so that you keep your existing motors and wiring.
If I recall correct that will solve the electric motors and seatbelt pretensioner wiring.

Then just the seat heater wiring will need modifying (if applicable).

If you can try and keep the z and get another, perhaps less expensive economical car for the daily so you have a choice for space/economy and fun/top down.

Then as you have 2 cars you get to tinker with one and still have another to drive!

I have read somewhere (I think on a US forum) that fitting a 320 clutch and flywheel to the 2.8 is a good cost effective mod along these lines... Apparently fits but there is a 'tab' that needs to be grinded off or something.

Not so sure about roll over protection from the seat.
Once you separate the seat from the base it pretty light, the weight is all in the base and motors, not much higher up.

The seats out of our galaxy with in built boosters - those are heavy lucky they have handles!

My M has been wrapped in Pearlescent white. It’s been on for nearly four years now and still looks beautiful. Just an update to say that my prefacelift got sold a few minutes after I posted the pics up, happy hunting, these things seem rare. Top top in the meantime try pointing the central air vents to the window and if will clear up quite quick when the engine is warm, not as good as the proper window heat...

So they include new rubber seals in that £325? That's pretty incredible. I think the seals on their own are around £100 quid for the set the last time I looked... Maybe obvious but did they redo the butyl seal at the rear (on the inside of the car where back end the top fixes to the body at the rear...

I found fitting sports seats (heated) and he seat lift mod (check Southernboys, others just not as good) made my car much more comfortable. The standard seats are just so flat. The sports seats are better not as good as say a Volvo. The seat lift mod gives more support I found. The heaters help ease...

Yes, maybe the grommet was stuck in there as part of the 'UK rain pack' including partial opening lid to keep boot dry on those rainy days!!
