Re: Broken Throttle Cable
Made a call to BMW in Vannes. Very nice response and between my bad french and their bad english a new cable will be available on tuesday next week. They need to get it from Germany or UK as they only hold LHD cables in stock. I should be back on the road next week.

Got to the first T junction at La Gacilly, hit the hot pedal and Splat, accelerator pedal hitq the floor and I trickle out onto the main road. Luckily its downhill and I coast to a stop into a layby. If the numbers are stamped on the forward part of the sump that is not visible without dropping the engine I have the following idea. Not sure if it is possible to get a hand to the stamped numbers but if so then get a piece of plasticine, reach round and press onto the stamped numbers, remove it, u...

The best scam is from AOL. Try and close your account. Need to call a premium number which charges 5 or 10p a MINUTE and can put you on hold for hours. I had to resort to FAX to head office to sort things. Then about 1 week later an email saying they need to talk to me and have tried a number of tim...

On a Z3 I'd say they generally point you in the right direction. On my Landrover, however, the warning lights are simply part of the interior decoration and have will of their own. sometime on, sometimes off. It is why the ABS,Enging warning and Oil warning lights even are affectionatly known as &qu...

No idea on the outer diameter as just cut to fit. Basically it is about 6mm smaller than the knurled wheel on the vent. Outer diameter is not such a problem, its the inner diameter for the hole. Start at about 4mm and work bigger testing the fit as you go. If you leave a long tab on the revers side ...

to check the boot light get someone small. A 2 or 3 year old is ideal. Put them in the boot. If they scream when the boot is shut then the light must be going out. If not, the light is still on and you have a problem with the boot switch. total cost = 1 ice cream if lucky or a full blown maccy meal ...

Ummm. I don't want to worry you but the combination of leakage from the expansion tank and Emmisions lighs points to blowing head gasket. I hope it is not so as its XXXX UKP to get fixed. I know, Ive just done it. Get the garage to do a sniff test on the radiator fluid to see if emmision gases are p...

Drove home this afternoon and the whole car is much better than previously. Regarding increased compression ratio I doubt it will be noticable as only 16 thou was removed. Happy Days - Just talked to the Garage. no problem with the head at all. It was just a very small break in the gasket that occasionally opened up allowing pressure from cylinder 5 to enter the coolant system. Anything over 4000 revs seemed to do it. Luckily I caught it before any major issues and I ...

Well, after a bit of misbehaving by my Zed - misfiring and spluttering occasionally and pressurisation of the coolant system, it turns out it is a small problem necessitating a new head gasket. I suspect it is leaking into cylinder 5!!!! Quote is 1500UKP to include a new radiator (bulged due to pres...
