Had the same problem with my car even though it had only done 19000ks
It had worn a very small hole in the moulding joint at the bottom of the container. A little carefull heat with the solder iron welded it up sufficiently.
No trouble since.

Brenda and I visited the factory in 82 and still think it VERY interesting.
Also a porcelain factory in the area (cant remeber the name at the mo).
Well worth a visit for anybody interested in how older cars were built.

Worst part is the price of accesories in Oz and Kiwiland. If you want to upgrade with "anything" it costs a huge arm and leg by the time it is converted to our currencies and delivery is added.

Great stuff Paul, its neat to get the younger generations interested in cars

Could it be wind noise eminating from the heater/aircon vents on the dashboard, maybe a leaf or similar caught in the vent grill.
You would presume if it was mechanical it would also sound in the lower gears. Or if it is the diff it would be a lower tone. Good hunting.

To my (limited) knowledge there were no RHD versions from the factory.
But there was a converted RHD model highlighted in Australia just recently. All would be a good investment if "enjoyment" was part of your portfolio.

My next door neighbour (nice young lady) is a sales rep and so far has covered 275000, kilometers. No major problems but small things like starter motor, clutch, paint touch ups on the occasional small dent etc. Its a 1.9 pre-facelift. No where near dead yet. Enjoy it.
