In that case I stand corrected. Looks like OBDII was available on pre 2000 Z3's after all. Interesting as it wasn't fitted to the M Roadster until later.

Re: diagnostic socket

Pre 2000 cars don't OBDII only the BMW 20 pin diagnostics connector under the bonnet which isn't strictly speaking OBDI. You can access most modules using a 16 pin to 20 pin adapter, a KKL interface and INPA/EDIABAS as per other replies but you will not be able to access all modules unless you use a...

The sirens have a nasty habit of packing up on the OEM alarm. This may be why you think you don't have one fitted. To test, Open the drivers window and then lock the car. Wait a full minute for the system to set. Reach inside the car and you should then set off the alarm - probably all you'll see is...

A common problem with the alarm is that the rechargeable battery inside the siren dies and this stops the red LED in the centre console flashing when armed and the siren will not sound This is incorrect. How do I know of my car has an alarm, and if so how I can fine out if it works? On previous cars I have managed to accidentally set it off, but not in the zed so far... Hi Jas, ADS is actually a different interface altogether and therefore you cannot adapt an OBDII cable to use the ADS protocols even by using a 16 pin OBDII to 20 pin adapter. Does your car have pin 15 on the 20 pin connector under the bonnet populated? i.e. does it actually have a pin in the plastic connector? If that is the case then you will probably have to use an ADS interface rather than the OBDII connector to access the cluster fully.

My point has been that your car is ISO1941-2 KKL compliant at the 20 pin connector, the same as all the other BMWs, you have the same KKL connections at the 20 pin as everyone else.
