Well folks, it's running again and apparently normally. Regrettably the warranty probably won't pay for it though. The warranty will pay only for failures, not incipient failures and the garage took the throttle body apart because their computer confirmed that the problem lay in that area, they clea...

I'm not sure and its probably not this but worth a quick check anyway - disconnect the MAF sensor. A faulty MAF can give either no ability to rev beyond idle or constant cut outs (as if running out of fuel constantly). Its easy to just unplug and will run on a default setting fine without it connec...

2.2i Sport problem, won't rev beyond idle
My 32000 mile 2002 2.2i Sport (M54) has thrown a wobbly and I am concerned that my local indie might have a problem sorting it. I have a warranty but it has onerous conditions and I have little faith in it paying out. It suddenly lost power at the weekend and when I pulled up it would not rev, almos...

I have a set on my Mk3 Mondeo and I would strongly recommend buyers off the higher colour temperature bulbs because they are slightly less bright than the more moderate ones and will draw attention to your arguably illegal set-up by being very blue. 4300 or 6000 at most look more OEM My other reserv...

Soft Top Cleaning Kit
Because you get the cheaper item free, it makes sense to buy two at the same price, so I bought a couple of Autoglym soft top cleaning kits at £19.99 for the pair. Bound to get used up with the birds around here having chronic diarrhoea.

Re: Cruelty?
As for waiting until the oil level light comes on before topping it up - do you not have a dipstick? You are running the oil down to the 'Min' end of the dipstick before the light comes on, which while some it may seem to be a normal practice, it makes anyone with a technical background tend to shu...

I am not too intimate with the idle control system but I had a Granada once that did this and the idle was generally a bit unstable too. The idle control valve was sticky in the first instance and couldn't react fast enough. As the car grew older the (mechanical) vane airflow meter potentiometer bea...

Thanks
Thanks chaps, for all the input. I must have a look at removing the CDV. I received a reply from Evolution Chips after I enquired as to whether their remaps would improve the throttle response. They say: Sorry for the delay but I have been out of the office, thanks for the enquiry regarding your BMW...

I take it then Titan that ours does have a CDV? I am sceptical about the benefit of the braided hose, but can see why a delay valve is undesirable. Did you do anything about the numb feeling from the accelerator pedal - the fly by wire? I find it irritating that the car won't do what I ask of it exc...

Clutch Delay valve (CDV)
Has anyone on here done anything about removing or modifying their CDV (if fitted)? I don't know whether my Z has one (v. late 2002 2.2i Sport) but from reading the Z4-forum.com it seems that my feeling of lack of full control over my car's clutch suggests that it has. On Z4s it seems that some have...

Re: Gasket?
A failing pump usually gives a bit of advance warning, in terms of the temperature at idle being high, but OK at higher speeds, so the thermostat may be the problem. The thermostat is easy thing to look at, and can be tested by watching it open in a pan of water being heated on the stove. It's not ...

I don't know exactly what the pump is like in the Z cooling system but failure of the water pump is a common cause of sudden and catastrophic coolant loss in cars. When this happens you can reduce the rate of loss by leaving the coolant filling cap loose to prevent pressure build-up. It is only a ge...

I had a figure of 32mpg from my 2.2 the other day on super premium fuel and over a 200 mile trip on main roads and motorways. That figure for a 1.9 is not normal I would guess. The general state of maintenance will conspire to adversely affect economy, but driving style is important too. The acceler...

I have a late 2002 2.2 Sport, and can identify with the clutch control problem. Mine has 'fly-by-wire' throttle control and I don't like the insulated feel it gives. This is the main reason in my case why a smooth 'creep' isn't easy. My everyday car (Citroen C5) is an auto with 'fly-by-wire' everyt...

Apologies in advance
I don't want to be contentious nor cause offence, being a relative newcomer an'all, but I have noticed on other car forums (fora?) that this repetitive stating and re-stating of the DfT's postion on after-market HID kits by members amuses me. :? I am sure all that take this view are rigidly sticking...

Ballasts
I had two sets, both metal. The first ones totally wiped out FM reception and I complained. The supplier exchanged them for a newer type, 'digital' apparently, and they are better. In marginal areas the radio still drops out more readily when the lights are on, but it's acceptable. There's a world o...

HID and electromagnetic interference (EMI)
The one reason I would be wary about this comes from my experience with my diesel Mk3 Mondeo. I fitted a kit from a reputable supplier - not a cheap Ebay Chinese kit (although it's probably Chinese anyway) - and it works very well with no dazzle or flashing from other drivers. However, it does inter...

I know it's a very different animal, but I have very similar symptoms on my Pinto engined Westfield. Is there a way of lubricating the sealing 'lips' that run fore and aft along the top of the door, especially the outside, and through which the window passes? Any application of lubricant is liable to smear the window, so what the general wisdom?

I wonder if he realises that even an ///M badge is classified as a modification and is (potentially) grounds for nullification of insurance if not declared?
