Re: Which engine oil for Z3 3.0i, 2002 ?
I put Castrol Edge 0w30 in my 2.8 about 3 weeks ago, it was purring like a sewing machine before, and straight away sounded awful, I dropped it out today and put in some QXLife Fully synth 5w40 as I had it sat there, and it sounds perfect again. I had this with Edge before on my ML and thought it mu...

Re: What did you buy your Z3 this week ?
Spent the morning putting new shocks, springs, bump stops, spring pads and top mounts on today.
Went oem rather than firming it up and glad I did, feels great.
Would have liked a slight drop but don't like Zeds that are too firm on the road as you can't press on, and I don't track it.

Assholes.
Is is definitely through to the metal?
I would try wet sanding it, then rubbing compound and then some G3 scratch remover.
You may be surprised and to be honest you have nothing to loose.

Totally agree, I have been on various BMW forums for the last 17 years, covering E36s, E46s, E39s, E60s, E90s etc. etc. and 1st to 2nd gear shift is one of the most discussed issues.

I'm amazed that people put different tyres on front and rear more than anything else in this thread. Re: Flashing E on code reader
If there is no OBDII port on your car I would suspect it will need an ADS adapter. Mine does. That round port is a funny port, even when trying to reset the service lights on mine I had issues. In the end I had to solder a bulb onto the jumper cable to change the resistance, then worked no problem.

But depends on the year, until mid 1998 the round connector was not OBD, it needs an ADS interface and a computer with a serial connection.

If it was £250 like the auto gearbox change on some cars I would say run with it, but for £30 you may as well put the right stuff in.
Think of the Castrol stuff as a bit of a clean out. Many do swap after a thousand miles or so.

Yeah it can, but it is a diff oil, hence why it is twice as thick as all the gearbox oils.
I would dump it out and put something else in there, the Redline D4 is well worth a punt, lovely slick changes.

What do you want to achieve in changing your oil? Just new oil? A good thing. A slicker gear change? Then go with an ATF which is much thinner and probably better suited to our UK weather. Better protection? Then go for a 75w90 manual transmission fluid, it will protect teh 'box a little more but ma...
