I love the idea of an M3-powered Z1. The Z1 is great as it but it seems a touch daft to me that it is actually rather slower than my practical estate car! Would utterly depend on how much it would cost to have the whole shebang done - ie engine plus all other necessary bits and bobs. So keep us post...

Help - door not opening
I've just had a call from the friend of mine who looks after my car while I'm away to say that he can't get the door to open. He's tried opening it but there isn't the usual loud click as it unlatches. Now ordinarily I'd assume this was due to a flat battery but the current battery is a heavy-duty j...

I guess it must be down to my locality then. Ladbroke Grove/Portobello/Notting Hill - lots of ridiculously well off people with posh accents living side by side with poor, scraping class folks. Could be just your area. My London flat is in a scruffy part of Southwark full of council flats and poor ...

No one's ever flung insults or dirty looks at me when in the Z1. In fact, as others have said, quite the opposite in fact. No-one's actually climbed in yet though. However, once when the car was parked outside our London HQ on Farringdon St some amusing chap decided to put a traffic cone of the roof...

Looking good! - took my Wiesmann hardtop off at Easter for my drive to the Hebrides. I don't find taking it off scratches it - mine came with a special soft cloth bag which it lives in and a hardtop stand. So it stores away quite nicely at the back of the garage. Yes there are two versions - your's ...

Because my Z1 spends long periods asleep in the garage I am planning to have a battery cut-out switch fitted when it is next serviced (will be due pretty soon on mileage grounds). It seemed logical to mount it in the boot though so that I can access it via the bootlid and therefore not need to leave...

Looked great covered in mud too but to be on the safe side I had it thoroughly valeted and greased when I got back to London. And the car... :?: And what exactly did you think I was referring to...if not the car? Evidence (actually it looks relatively clean here): http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/...

Mine even coped with a spot of light dirt track work the other day. I drove to the Isle of Islay in it for Easter with my mother's family who live in an isolated farmhouse up a four mile dirt track. I did go very slowly on the three times I had to go up and down it, but the car never bottomed out or...

Black Z4 (hardtop) - Glasgow
Approximately 3am on Easter Saturday on the M8 heading into Glasgow, I encountered a smart black Z4 wearing a hardtop. Drove along in tandem for a few miles and then got a friendly flash of the lights when it peeled off. Sorry if was less communicative: was (a) I had been on the road since leaving L...

I spotted a red Z1 with roof and doors down driving along the harbour front on Friday pm and then twice again parked in the parking near the new harbour.

Buy the best one you can find with the fattest history file. I saw some doggy ones on my search, especially if they have the grey alcantara/camouflage leather trim that ages badly and looks really quite hideous when tatty. Try and get it inspected by someone who actually knows what they are looking ...

Last one I saw on the road, other than my own, was a red G-reg one on a Saturday evening in Northumberland Avenue around the end of October last year. I was in my S3 though and on a desperate hunt for a parking space (as clearly was the red Z) as I was late for a show at the Playhouse so didn't stop.

I don't know. Maybe. Mine's been retrimmed in black leather anyway which I prefer massively since I can't abide the camouflage sections or the alcantara. So the interior isn't that fragile. I found mine worked perfectly well being used as an everyday machine provided it is properly cared for. I agre...

BMW CCGB/ZRegister membership
I don't quite follow why, since I am both a BMW CCGB member and a member of the appropriate Z register, this doesn't seem to show up for my details on here?
How do you alter that? Or am I missing something?
It's not hugely important but it just seemed odd!

Teatray, Do you suffer the squeaks and leaks other owners mentioned? What in your opinion are the Pros and Cons? And lastly, do you recommend a Hard top? I've not noticed added squeaks as a result of having the hard-top on the car - perhaps that's because mine is flock-lined and so it doesn't rub. ...

Green Z1 with Wiesmann hardtop?
Ok 'fess up - who's my doppelganger? Have had several people claim they've seen my car driving around London since I left on the basis there can't be two green Z1s wearing Wiesmann hardtops knocking around Chelsea. However, this is unlikely since my Z is safely stored away in a Docklands lock-up and...

It's unfair, I think, to say that the French police view the British motorist as a cash cow. I was once done doing 168kph in the rain in Pas de Calais and it was a pretty fair cop to be honest. They were perfectly nice about the whole thing and the 600FF fine was not exactly the most drastic given t...

Re: Z1 on TV.
After many emails to the Beeb and various uninterested parties, I have just taken receipt of our beloved Z1 on celluloid from an episode of Top Gear, and I cant stop grinning. My enthusiasm was shortlived however, as the clip is not very long, but for £5 its money well spent in my opinion. Cool. Di...

Hi No - all Z1s were manufactured between 1988 and 1991. The example Coys is selling would have been made in 1989 judging from the chassis number. That said it may not have been registered until 1993 - indeed there are still unregistered cars out there (at a price). Not surprising that it is Italian...

Well if any of you saw a green English-reg'd Z1 parked at the side of the Corniche just below the vieux village in Roquebrune-Cap Martin that was me.

Cheers! It's amazing how much you can actually fit in too! Even with the hardtop on (and therefore the soft-top eating up most of the bootspace not already occupied by the spare wheel) we fitted in 10 days' luggage for two, plus on the way back a spare JVC midi-system with speakers that my parents n...

Very pleased with my Z1 - it has proved itself a faithful and trusty companion. My sister and I drove it down to the French Riviera for Christmas with our parents and then drove back yesterday! Good sleuthwork! Yes is all very exciting. The seats have been retrimmed in plain black leather which looks heaps better than the nubuck/camouflage stuff that was in every other Z1 I saw. What by way of a 16" BMW alloy would fit a Z1 other than the obvious Z1 alloys which aren't too common as spare sets? I ask as I have a set of excellent 16" Dunlop winter tyres in the garage left over from my S3 which it would be great to be able to fit to the car come winter time given yo...
