Yeh the M54 eng is great , ive got an E85 3.0 auto, an it goes like hell, an still ret on av 30mpg on runs, I too had a 330i same engine an traded it in may as ont school runs it ret 19 mpg ,got an 11 reg a c'max 1.6 d, wish now I had converted the 330, as I had lpg cars before and tbh found no diff...

If you do end up drilling some have drilled an tapped the outer aluminium case and installed a grease nipple, but because im not to nimble I took the easier option an drilled a hole 1 or 2 mm diameter that was a nice tightish fit on the red extension nozzel as on wd40 and I pump a few squirts in now...

Hi J, sorry bud but im 10mls north of Manchester, you could try the uj's this has worked for some, but tbh for me an others drilling was the only thing that eased, the problem. Thats true , the steering, when u have a problem gets worse with heat , ie heater on your feet or driving in hot climates, causing the the different materials used in the column gearbox to expand thus making the problem worse,

Changed most of mine 3yrs ago for powerflex, mainly cos the front was all over the place , now it great, recently change the rear trailing arm bushes tightning up the back end , they certainly work.

Can understand your reasoning.
