Mine is an April 1999 (just pre-facelift) 2.8 and came new with the M logo on the steering wheel and gearknob, but I've never really considered it to be an 'M' as such.

After three days in Singapore, my wife and I arrived in Christchurch, New Zealand, yesterday after our second overnight flight in five days. I saw only one Z4 in Singapore, but as soon as I left the hotel this morning I saw an immaculate bright red Z3 2.8 coming towards us.

When I started driving (scooters/bikes from 1960, cars from 1961) bog basic petrol ('pool' as it was called in those days) was about four shillings and sixpence a gallon in old money - which if my maths is correct is the equivalent of around 4.5 pence a litre by today's standards.
